CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine -- Sugarloaf Ski resort officials said a 16-year-old boy has died after a ski accident.

Sugarloaf Communications Manager Ethan Austin said the boy, whose name is not being released, was skiing on the Hayburner trail at the resort when he went off the trail and collided with an object.

Ski patrol responded to the accident, but was unable to revive him.

The teen was a student at Carrabassett Valley Academy and the son of a Sugarloar employee.

Carrabassett Police are investigating the incident.

he took a lap off from skiing with his friends to grab something from his dad, didnt end up waiting for his buddies and just kept lapping by himself and ended up cruising off a side booter and hitting one of those large tall snowmaking pipes. he was wearing a helmet and ive been told he was for sure the best on the freeride team at actually shredding mountain terrain. just goes to show we all take part in a very dangerous sport any little thing can cause serious and even life ending injury.

condolences to the cva freeride team and joshs family, i know josh was very close with all of you and it must be rough for you guys right now.
