what model is the best for holding a lot of stuff and good in the snow and offroad? i was thinking the outback or impreza WXR

Hatchback will hold the most, either an outback or a legacy wagon would be legit. If you want a faster car, wrx wagon, legacy gt wagon or i think they make an outback wagon with a turbo too not sure.

Are you buying new or used?

wrx for speed. The legacy wagons can hold a bunch of shit. Get a roof rack, or just fold a seat down and you can easily fit skis and stuff for as many people as you can fit in the car.
I have a wagon and love it for getting to the hill. But a wrx is a sweet ride too. They haul ass

I have a forester, You can fold down one seat and put a ton of skis/ boots and such as well as whatever else. I fit my 6'4'' surfboard in there too, with room for the driver and two others and other stuff. It's got bars if I need them. Not exactly the fastest but I'm not concerned about sped really. Does fine in the snow, but most awd cars probably will if somebody competent is behind the wheel.

if you're not gonna race and just want to be cool and get a WRX or STi then go for for it. but thats a huge waste of money. outback, forester or impreza. you don't need a $40,000 first car. thats a year in college.

booom subaru's = sickest cars ever. there all pretty much the same when it comes to "off road" they all just kickass in the snow. so its basically just what model you want. any impreza is going to be a sportier car. (wrx or not) the impreza's have a little more balls then the rest of the family.

but yeah if you happen to have like 25k jus send er with an STI haha.

I have a legacy gt wagon and love it. turbo n fast. awd and a wagon.

if u want more room get a Forester XT or a Baja GT both are 2.5 turbos with plenty of cargo room!

screw that, buy an audi, quattro is the best AWD system in the world. you can find all sorts of B6 a4's (2002-2005) for $8-14k. subi's are the most uncomfortable, noisy, riced out cars of our generation. i cant stand my roommates WRX with the fart can attached.

love my a4, so quiet, so comfortable, fucking destroys the snow on the way to the mountain, built like a tank and not an aluminum can.

i agree on suby's being a bit noisier. BUT a hell of a lot easier and cheaper to fix haha. mine with an exhaust isnt that load. no drone. when modded right they work out great. audis are much more fancy on the inside. more likely to have leather/heated seats and navigation. subys are very basic on the inside. which i love. nice and simple. awd. fast. and efficient for skiing

True Delema.

Obviously the Outback has way more room, better clearance, and costs less (I think). But the WRX has a bigger engine, and is more badass. Its really a toss up for a skiier as to which is better for what we do, and basicaly comes down to preferance.

BTW, top picture is the 09' Outback, which i think are better than the new 10' and 11' models, and the lower picture is a 10' WRX Sti.

these are the only pics i could find of my pride and joy, 07 outback named betty sube. i love her, and she has taken me on lots of adventures. lots of room for shit in the back, great with ski rack. love it.

i don't think you can really go wrong with any Subaru, I have an 08 WRX. i personally would've preferred a 05-07 Legacy Wagon GT (because I own a dog as well as ski) but they are pretty rare in my area. but even my WRX has a fair amount of storage and you can just fold down the back seats and fit your skis just fine. I think they also look sick with a ski rack or even a whole cargo carrier (my friend has one on his Impreza and it actually looks dirrrrty). best of luck searching man

how much stuff do you actually think you need to carry?

I have an 06 impreza wagon (aka very small) and i can fit 4 people's worth of urban stuff (including shovels, excessive clothing, water, etc) in the trunk with the back seat up. you really don't need more space than that if you have a ski rack

WRX hatchback is plenty fast and fun, with a good amount of space; there is no need to dish out the extra money for the STI unless you are serious into cars and want to race (It has a lot of features that the average driver won't be using). Either way, if you get a higher end subaru, be ready to dish out the cash for high octane gas.

coilovers are the way to go if you want to adjust your suspension ride height, you can raise and lower your car 2-3 inches in most cases. most coilover kits are $1000+.

Bahahha I like the people saying STi turbo's. Good luck finding a NA STi..... but seriously, Go with a Forrest 2.5XTi or a WRX-265 wagon. The wrx 265 wagon will give you performance and funtion.

If you're thinking of getting a impreza or wrx wagon check out the Saab 9-2x, it's mechanically the same as the subaru, looks better IMO, and is cheaper

The WRX hatchback is a great ski car that's fun to drive, but you'll be spending quite a bit of money on features that aren't necessary to get to and from the mountain.

Other than the $6-8K higher sticker price (plus all of the extra interest that will accrue over the course of the loan if you're financing the purchase), you're looking at higher insurance premiums (could be significantly higher if you're under 25, unmarried, and have a less than perfect driving record), paying for premium gas at the pump ever time you fill up, and spending another $600-$1000 for a set of snowtires/wheels/and TPMS gauges if you want full-on snow traction since you can't use chains. Maybe you can, but the owners manual specifically says not to.

Not sure what kind of coin you're making or how old you are, but if money is a factor at all I think you could easily pay for an entirely new set-up, and several years worth of skiing, including all of the gas money, with just the money you'd save on the purchase price, let alone the extra insurance, etc.

yup, the 9-2x was built by Fuji Heavy Industries, which owns subaru. it was designed and built exactly from the WRX, the only differences are the hood, the front and rear bumpers, the hatch and the front fenders. everything else is exactly the same.

my roommate owns a WRX and one of our friends owns a 9-2x. there is no difference when riding in either.

not mine, but definitely what I want someday, I have a 97 legacy sedan, thing has held up 105k miles totally solid, only replaced head gaskets and tire rods (lots of tire rods...)

I have a 2001 Subaru outback plenty of room for everything. Got a ski rack on top and has almost 150,000 miles on it. My parents had a red Subaru outback that lasted them 18 years and they just recently gave it away. Subarus are by far one of my favorite cars for what i need.
