Skis are chipping.

I've been shredding on my LINE Chronic's 166's (09's) for about a month now, only popped in about 25-30 times. I'm seeing that my edges are chipping like mad. The plastic ontop of the skis are peeling, and revealing the wood. I was on the chairlift and some older guy looked at me and said, "Wow, time for new ski's, how long have you had those?". They're brand new, and i have to make them last at least 2 seasons. I dropped a good amount of money on these, and I don't want to have to buy another pair next year.
I know this is normal, but it seems that my skis are chipping at a very quick rate. My buddy had his skis for 2 years more than me, and his looked better, and he shreds a lot harder than i do.

can take em back to the shop you bought them at. might be defected. Most likely you are just chipping them with your edges. go buy a 2 part epoxy mix and put that on top. that is a 5 dollar solution to your 500 dollar problem

I have the 2010 chronics and they were chipping pretty hard after one backyard session, Sick skis though. I'll try that epoxy thing

Oh, and i backyard Jib mostly everyday, and ski once to twice every weekend.
So I might just be over using them?

That looks like your ski took a nice hit from your other ski, perhaps from a bad landing. I'd throw in some epoxy to prevent further damage.

Alright, thanks.
Now when i buy Epoxy what are the steps/procedures i have to go through to repair my skis?
Is it just like Paint? Do i have to melt it on?

any epoxy I have ever used is two parts you have to mix together. I usually try to get the 5 minute stuff so its doesnt run to bad. But just follow the instructions for mixing (1:1 usually) when I apply it i dont really worry about how pretty it is because I just sand it after to smooth it out. The only problem I see is most epoxy has a yellowish color to it. So make sure you're okay with seeing a slightly different color in certain locations. I'd def try the shop you bought them before first. That looks haggard

Make sure to dry your skis out first. With them being that exposed the wood sucks up the water and if the water is sealed in your skis will rot. So bring them inside in a dry hot room for a day or two then epoxy according to the directions on the epoxy

my salomon suspects chipped really quick on the first day i used them. was pissed at first but it doesn't change the performance of the ski so..

Basically most epoxy is two part like people said above. You mix the two, the hardening reaction starts and you have a certain amount of time to get it on. You might wanna get stuff with a working time of a bit more than 5 minutes so you have to to make it nice before it gets really hard. Just fill the missing pieces and level them up with the rest of of this ski.

This shit is the tits. Its got a high affinity for bonding, but remains flexible when hardened, even down to low temps. Shits expensive but worth it. Most boat stores sell it.

yah mine are chipping on the topsheet also but who cares, unless its causing you edges to rip out through the top it jsut makes your skislook more badass, ive had 3 pairs of chronics and all the topsheets chip its just because of the sidewall construction

its because i USED to bang my skis together, my new pair have minimal chipping just from banging them together when i fall, but yes my other pairs got chipped to shit because i didnt have the leg stregnth to keep them apart

Why do people care? Its nothing dramatic. All my skis have always been chipped to death, you guys need to stop being so damn perfectionist, its not like you're gonna ski better if it does not chip... /rant

they look fine.... i have those skis and they tend to chip around the edges but i just pull off the top sheet sticking out and keep riding, really doesn't affect the performance of the ski.

Take the skis and run the top edges on a belt sander until nice and smooth. the more round the edge the less they will catch on your other edges and chip. If you epoxy....use a "very high peel epoxy" something flexible. If it is brittle it will just chip and look like something puked on your ski.

sand down the places where it is chipping so it doesn't anymore in that spot. use like 350-400 grit paper so it doesn't take too much off

So i'm rapidly chipping my skis now. I am avoiding banging my shit together, but my skis still tend to chip. This is bullshit. This is so bullshit, that wood is exposing. And i heard that if some of the wood of the ski is exposing that it will waterlog or some shit. Should I expoxy this or go to my local shop?

+K For legit answers, maybe even some paypal shit. I need my skis to be ready for shreddin this weekend!

Epoxy it and then take it to your shop when you get a chance. I think you're seeing the wood core in some of those shots, but its still got a layer of glass over it (I hope) that will keep water out for a little while... until you chip that.

Are you sharpening the shit out of your edges every time you ride?

I usually try to refrain from doing this, but I cannot help myself. You are a fucking idiot. Your topsheets are chipping. You obviously keep slapping your skis together. There is nothing wrong with your skis. You would be devastated if you saw my chronics. There is a layer of glass over the wood. I have chipped my skis to the core once, dripped gorilla glue on it, sanded it down once it dried. Everyone has told you to do something of this sort. Just do it, stop complaining, and realize that this is what happens when you ski.

a little bit of the plastic comes off everyday, which doesn't matter. But i'm mostly concerned that all the damn plastic is gonna come off exposing a shitload of wood.. Right now i'm lettin em dry in my basement if water got through the wood.
