January 15, 1929 a baby is born in Atlanta Ga.
On Monday, you'll probably taking a day off from what you normally do. Maybe you'll be searching out what the real skiers left over from the storm this week, maybe not. But it's definitely a day that you need to pause and think.
Here's what grabbed my attention tonight; I was watching the Ricky Gervais Show on HBO and when it was over it lead into Real Time with Bill Maher. In between the hour change HBO ran a bunch of promos for upcoming shows etc.
To qualify this, I don't usually watch Bill Maher, but during the upcoming promos I'm thinking about what's Bill Maher's going to talk about in his show. I'm kinda half paying attention to the promos and thinking about the events in AZ. And I notice the promo sequence: show clip "i'm going to shoot you in the head" comedy ; show clip 6 shooter, serious western, killing someone; explosion; house fire...
First I think could TV go a week without showing any violence. If you had a legitimate request from the people of TV land for TV stations to not broadcast any violence for 1/52 of their year, could they do it?
I doubted it,
And then I realize it doesn't matter what Bill Maher would say. It could be bad sarah alin jokes or a serious reflection on the week -- the promos and the interests of the broadcasters just make it all too irrelevant.
This is what MLK had to say at the time of the JFK assassination.
“We were all involved in the death of John Kennedy. We tolerated hate; we tolerated the sick stimulation of
violence in all walks of life; and we tolerated the differential application of law, which said that a man's life wassacred only if we agreed with his views.”
So I ask you, what's on your mind?

ya... and then? You don't have to be Indian to know about Gandhi. I'm sure once you realized who this thread is about you had something else pop in your head.

Are you attempting to compare a run of the mill congresswoman to MLK?
Let me ask you this, if you're not HEAVILY interested in politics, or from Arizona, had you even heard about her before she got shot?

no. I'm trying to highlight the prevalence of violence in our society now and reflect on how it's influence has even grown, despite the message of Dr. King.
Beyond that I'm looking at how there's a situation where MLKs message is absolutely applicable, the relevance of his day is coincidental, and yet still, it isn't heard.
If I'm comparing Rep.Giffords to anyone in the OP it's to JFK.
So no, you can't ask me that ridiculous follow up question.
