Does my cat think I'm his mom?

Why do cats have relationships with people? Why does he follow me around and always sleep with me? Do we replace their mother or something? Or does he just like that I'm warm?

my roommates cat follows me around and is always meowing at me when I sit at my computer. I think cats are just attention whores.

haha i don't about that. i think given the choice between a warm object and a warm you, the cat would pick you. the cat across the street from me does.

Because you feed him and give him attention. Our dogs follow my mom around all the time she's home because they want food. But my dog follows me and sleeps with me cause I'm the only one who plays with him and gives him a lot of attention.

he like hardly ever sees me put food in the dish though. and he eats animals around the yard/woods as much as he does the food i give him, just fucks like 10 rabbits' days up all the time

my dog will come lay down in whichever room i am in. if i am going to sleep he will come in bed and lay up beside me. he is a large dog as well. the cats on the other hand will only follow me when i am going into the kitchen. i am the only one that consistently takes the dog for walks and i am the only one that feeds the cats. my brother is a lazy bum. he loves the pets and having them, but doesn't want to have to do the jobs that involves owning them. gets on my nerves. he is 22.

i have to admit, dogs are probably a good bit smarter in the sense of knowing humans and interacting with them. the cat at my parents' house, only my mom has ever fed him, like i think my dad has literally never fed him, and he ignores the shit out of my mom and loves my dad

i think cats are just social. my cat will come sit beside my on the couch, or when my family is eating dinner she just sits on the floor in the kitchen. she always likes to be around whoever is in the house.

all of my cats and dogs know that i am the light sleeper in my family so if they want attention/need to go outside in the middle of the night they should scratch on my bedroom door. one of my cats has figured out which window is mine as well and so if she wants inside in the middle of the night she will sit one the fence outside of my bedroom and meow to wake me up. if it's earlier in the night she knows that my dad is in the basement so she pulls at the weatherstripping on the basement door to make a loud clicking noise for him to hear

for weird affection... my other cat always scratches on the bathroom door right after i get out of the shower. when i let him in he is always purring super loud and insists on rubbing against my wet legs. i'm pretty sure it is the most affectionate he ever gets

my cat was put down 2 years ago, this thread and tht video really make me want to get another one.
she slept on my bed and attacked my feet when i moved them... and would never stop patting down the sheets. she was cute tho. had her for 14 years.

i always thought one of our cats sees herself as another human. the other one saw herself as rambo, brought into the neighborhood to tear the living shit out of any squirrel, pigeon, raccoon, or small tank.

we used to always give my dogs carrot shavings, cheddar cheese, turkey and that sort of thing but two of my three dogs have had severe pancreatitis and would get sick if they ever ate human food. we only found one brand of dog food that didn't give them any issues and couldn't give them treats. the first one had to be put down because he managed to eat half of a pie he got off of the counter. he was super sick and spent a couple of days hooked up to an IV, moaning and shaking because he was in so much pain. we had to put him down on christmas eve because the vet wasn't going to be open for the next couple of days. it was just after this that my other dog started getting sick whenever he got ahold of different food. It's hard because we have to be super careful whenever little cousins are over or when he is running at the park to make sure he doesn't get ahold of anything.

update: yesterday i watched my cat show me he was unable to figure out how to go through a door that was cracked open. i'm a little more convinced he does not have the hardware required to love..

when you get a puppy from a breeder youre supposed to wrap a tick tock clock in a blanket to sleep with the dog. the tick tocking simulates their mothers heart beat.

My cat will not stop following me around. She eats with me, like on the chair next to me, sleeps with me. And she's too cute....I couldn't be mad or frustrated with her.
