i guess i should be more specific- do i throw it back more? or sideways more like a lincoln? i was also thinking of just throwing my shoulders slightly right on the take off (like enough for a rightside 180) and that might counter the overrotation. bad idea?

Just do a backflip with a japan grab and thats it

side-question: does that mean flat 5 and flat 3 are not thrown the same way? (ie; 5 is more of a spin that a flip and vice-versa?)

Try setting it like a backflip, but looking over your left shoulder(opposite if you spin right) grab japan, and look at the landing the whole time. Thats how I learned them, its the easiest way to get a feel for them before you start setting them more off axis

Very few people can do legit flat 3s. Most people just do wackflips (japan backflip pretty much) and claim flat 3 so it's good enough

what do you mean "good enough"? wackflips suck, flat 3s are boss

you're suspicion was correct. a "flatspin 3" is pretty much a rodeo 3. it looks just like a backflip but slightly off axis. not really on the flatspin axis at all unless you're a freak of nature and can pull it back into line. but to the best of my knowledge no one can do that without spinning a 5

most flip spins are very diferent when done with small rotations, like flat threes look pretty diferent that flat 5's or 7's
just like cork threes look nothing like cork 5's 7's or 9's
All times are Eastern (-5)
