At Rowen's suggestion, I'll start this thread off (even though I don't have an orange name).

Injury: Compression fractures at T4-5; incomplete spinal cord lesion.
How: DH biking. Bounced a landing and got tossed head-first into a tree.
When: October 2010
Surgeon work: spinal fusion T2-T8. Two rods, 12 screws + cadaver bone to help vertebrae fuse. (permanent)
Time to back on skis: 3 months, 7 days.

Injury: Broken femur.
How: DH biking. Overshot a big jump and landed flat.
When: September 2005
Surgeon work: 1 rod, 3 screws (removed after 6 months)
Time to back on skis: 10 weeks.

Yes I really love skiing. Believe it or not, airport scanners don't pick this stuff up. They are only strong enough (read: expose us to enough radiation) to pick up just below the skin. I travel a lot and haven't been stopped once, even on international flights.

I don't want to be the only one posting images here. Who else has something?

Well crap I guess I can't upload pics anymore, blocked from filehosting, and the Insert media gives me an error.

I though my back was bad, that is just crazy.

But here is mine (link below), 6 screws, 2 rods, L4-L5-S1 spine fusion, as with the op cadaever bone was used in between the vertebrae to fuse them.

Wish i had a side view like the OP's, really want to see what my hardware looks like from that angle. Forgot to say the surgery was in July of 2009.

Question, someone else above said it too, but do you (OP) set off metal detectors at the airport? I have not traveled since my surgery, was just curious if I was going to set them off.

well damn ha thats a lot of screws and such.

i got one of my ankle that I shattered a few years back, only needed 2 screws and they got taken out like a year later, now I got em in a little baggie in my room :)

As it says in the op, I have a spinal fusion from T2-T8.
I definitely have nerve damage and am left with this:

my left side below my lowest rib has problems sensing cold and pain. On my right leg I have clonus, a type of muscle spasm reaction issue.

But when it first happened, I couldn't feel my legs. Sooo fucked up. I am more than lucky. It continues to help a bunch knowing how others such as CR Johnson, Kevin Pearce, etc prevailed following traumatic injuries and doing initial rehabbing at the same facility I was in (U of U inpatient rehab).

i dunno if this is the same guy but it's very close

like, 6 years ago my mom did surgery on a man who was using a nail gun, hit a knot, and popped the gun up into his face breaking his jaw.

after they re-set his jaw and sent him on his way he came back 2 weeks later complaining of a terrible pain in his sinuses. they did a full xray on his skull and found a 16d nail in his face.

looked just like this my mom brought the xray home

a kid i worked with got hit in the face with a hit baseball. he's got lots of fake teeth now and can't taste anything or really feel stuff in his mouth.

wish i had a good picture of my xray.

but ive had a plate in my leg for 5 years and have yet to set off an airport metal detector. they use special metal so that your body cant break it down which also means it wont set off alarms. i guess it works.
