How to fix Crowbar Lenses

Search barred and didn't find anything.  I know I have seen some threads in the past, prob on SG, but couldn't dig them up. 

I knew about the antifog and tried to be really careful with my crows.  One wipeout and I got some snow in them, tried to gently dab them dry, but still screwed them up.  So pissed! 

I was able to salvage my lenses, and this is how I did it:

Used Cat Crap and a Smith No-Fog Cloth.  Put a little dab of Cat Crap on the cloth and rubbed in little circles making sure to switch directions.  I rubbed using the same part of the cloth wear I dabbed on the Cat Crap.  The lenses stayed cloudy until the spot on the cloth wear the Cat Crap was applied started to look waxy.  Then the lens got buffed in the area and cleared up.  I repeated the process in the spots wear the antifog had clouded the lens.  It took some time and patience, but I got my lenses back.  Beats the shit out of having to buy new lenses. 

Please use this thread to post your own tricks and home remedies for this problem.  Personally, I wish Oakley had never put the anti fog shit on their lenses.  It's basically useless, IMO.

so i tried this....

and now my goggles smell like cat feces..

what did i do wrong?

thats the cat crap. your choices are shitty lenses or shitty smelling lenses. choose your lesser evil

Everyone said that Cat Crap, the product not something you dig out of the litter box, smelled terrible.  I honestly don't notice any smell at all.

Yes, that is exactly what it is.  It looks like your goggles are fogged, but it is actually that the anti fog stuff that Oakley treats their lenses with has gotten smeared.  The more you rub it, the worse it will get.  Asked a bunch of people I knew how to fix it and they all told me that I was SOL.  A ski patroller reminded me about Cat Crap.

Google it and I'm sure you will find a way to buy it on line or local shops may carry it.  I got some at Christy's in Vail.  It's less than $5.  Get it and follow the instructions I used.  The key is patience, because it will seem like you are making it worse and then it will start to clear up.

i have the same problem right now and it is really irritating, i have tried to remedy the problem myself and think i've destroyed my lens in the process....

So unfortunately I did not take a before pic, but the left side of my lens had a permanent silver dollar sized cloud.  This is the after shot I just took.  It is not perfect, but it is way better than it was and I can ski fine in them.  I could probably spend a little more time and get them back to 99%.

Unless you used something abrasive and scratched your lens, I am sure that this process can restore them.  Give it a shot.  What do you have to lose?

Yeah that is very true. Thank you so much for making this thread. I was in so much distress thinking I destroyed my lens and I couldn't find anywhere to show me how to clean it. I will be picking up some cat crap tonight and giving it a shot! Thanks again!

No worries.  Just remember patience.  The direction on the back of the container says to use soft cotton cloth or chamois.  I used a Smith antifog cloth, but you might try getting a nice lens specific cloth.  That may prove to work better and be easier than what I went through.

I have been working with the cat crap, rubbing it in with my finger and buffing with a lens cloth for about a half hour now and am not seeing any progress. Any other tips or things I can do?

Sorry, I was gone for the weekend.  Did you get it to work?  It was the same for me until I rubbed with one finger in the cloth and kept rubbing in small circles until the spot on the cloth where it was rubbing on the lens started to look waxy.  At that point it cleared, and I just kept repeating the same thing everywhere it needed it until they looked good again.
