Serious box building question

I wanted a good box so i built a very sturdy wood 12 foot box, counter-synced HDPE top sheets over it, and the only thing i have a question on is the metal edging.

1. Is it helpful to have the metal edging?
2. What type of metal stripping is recommended for the box edge?
3. How should i attach it to the HDPE?

Any other information would be helpful because theres a huge storm coming tonight and i want it done for tomorow! Thanks NS

you dont attach it to the hdpe, you build the coping frame around your box and then rest the hdpe inside the frame. PVC pipe is what people usually use, but terrain park at resorts use metal bars. pvc is the way to go

^ will the HDPE chip if we dont put the metal edging on the sides? will i be able to grip and do switchups and 270s off?

no. but you have to make it so the top of the hdpe is flush with the pvc coping. i did it on my box and it works really well. just set the hdpe on top, un-drilled, and then match up the pvc with it and attach the pvc. then you set the hdpe in after that. good luck man.

sorry if that was confusing. the hdpe will not chip if you do what i said above. and yes you will be able to grip and switch up and all that good stuff.

i have an hdpe topped wooden box, i have no coping on the sides and i did hook my ski several times and made some cuts in the hdpe, then i took a coarse file and made 45° edges allthe way along the box and didn't catch an edge ever since ( i also rounded the edges on my beater skis with an angle grinder)

i don't think you need metal coping, but if you do make it, you'll need to use rounded metal pipes (or something similar) and put it between the hdpe sheet and your box base with metal attachment lips.
align the tubes so they're about a 0.5-1cm lower then the hdpe surface so your skis don't actually touch the metal when sliding flat ...

also a small remark in summer i prefer my pvc box much more than the hdpe one...

because pvc slides better when dry...

however in winter and with snow the HDPE performs equally awesome and is less brittle ...
