This is probably the absolute wrong site for this thread but ill give it a shot. Im a junior in college studying Criminal Justice. Yea call me a pig or whatever...your just ignorant and most likely 15 years old. I was wondering if anybody else is in the same program or preferably finished the program. What are you doing now? How was the process of getting a job after graduation? I have a pretty good idea of what I want to do after college but they are almost unlimited sub categories in criminal justice that im always finding a new concentration that peeks my interest.
I'm a sophmore CJ major. It's nice. I really don't care where i go with it at the moment. There are always gonna be jobs open no matter where you go unless you want a specialty (CSI, computer crime, the more scientific aspects). I'm excited to be able to have that many open doors but i think when i have to really choose it's gonna suck too.
2 of my roommates are in it, and it seems like a tough future. They are both quite good at it and a level above most of the rest, but decent police jobs in the northeast are sparse. Seems like some students have basically committed themselves to joining the military just to get the extra points.
(you probably know, but due to affirmative action, its now damn near impossible to get the job after the tests due to being a white male. The system has essentially become reverse racism, in that more competent white candidates are being passed over for less qualified minorities or women. Not saying white men are always more competent or anything, just pointing it out)
My roommate from last year is a criminal justice major. He's going to apply to law school when he graduates. If he doesn't get in the right law school, or doesn't get enough money towards it, his backup is to be a cop. State trooper is his first backup choice, but the more he thinks about it, it's not really like a backup, its just a different path than law school, and he's leaning more away from law school at the moment.
Yea trooper would be ideal but not going to happen. If i was born 30 years earlier i would be set. I know a lot of 50 to 60 year old guys who are about to retire as nys troopers with excellent benefits and actually a few of them made over 100k.
They rake in the bank even before retirement! I also heard the benefits are awesome! Unfortunately i heard they aren't taking any more troopers for a certain amount of time that is in years.
I'm taking a Computer Security and Investigations course that has a lot of criminal justice courses in it. From what I hear the job market is crazy good for this kind of thing, which makes sense when you look at the amount of smart phones/computers/internet-capable devices are around these days.
