Questions about Montreal

My Friends and I are/were planning a trip to Montreal for a week this summer, and we have a few questions for anyone from the area.

1) Is it like the US, where most places require you to be 21 to get a hotel room/condo? Any suggestions on where to stay? We all have jobs and are paying for the whole trip ourselves, so we want to save as much money as possible while still being somewhat close to downtown.

2) What are some cool places to visit/things to do? Historical stuff is just as good as modern attractions, we don't want to just sit around all day.

3) Is it true that Americans are no longer allowed to drink at 18/19? Heard this from a guy at work, he says the law recently got changed to specifically stop people from the US who are under 21 from going over. It seems understandable that kids going across the border just to drink and cause problems would be an issue. We don't want to just have a week long party and get trashed the whole time or anything, but being able to get a beer and poutine would be nice.

No you can rent your hotel room if you're 18 and more since it's the legal age here.

I don't live in Montreal so I don't really know much about the town but there's a six flags park called ''la ronde'' which is pretty cool. You can do some rafting too. You can go to the biodome if you want to see some animals, it's pretty cool. There's a lot of awesome shops there too!

I called BS on the last point, I work as a cashier in a convenience store and I never nheard of that before. So you're fine :)

thank you! I did think it would be a little absurd to specifically not allow Americans to drink.

And I saw those on the Montreal tourism site I think, that park looked awesome! Theres supposed to be a ton of great restaurants too, though I suppose thats true of most major cities.

and thanks again for clarifying on the age for a hotel thing. That was the major problem for us.

If you are going at the end of june go check out the Jazz fest for sure. Some amazing free concerts. Also mid to late july there are music fests such as Osheaga and Heavy MTL, but considering that you are trying to save money, maybe those two aren't for you. Old port is pretty cool to check out. Mount Royal - nice view, especially during sunset. Walking around downtown is always fun. I don't really know what kind of stuff you are into though...

as for places to stay, check out hotwire.com

i got a great deal on a 4-star in toronto last year for 69$US a night, MTL should have some good options too.

Malcom - Is Schwartz a hotel or something?

steezbox - Its a pretty varied group so someone would be interested in just about anything, but Jazz Fest sounds like something I'd like, I'll be sure to check it out!

Williestyle - I'll be sure to do that, I haven't really checked out any booking sites like hotwire yet. I want to know exactly how many people are going beforehand, and I wanted to get a feel for which area(s) we want to be close to.

If you re going to be here on a sunday then you have to check out tam tams, its just a huge party in the mount royal oark on park avenue. everyone just doing thry re own thing, smoke, drink, play frisby, or whatever you want, must do in MTL
