Lets get one thing straight here , ive read this to many times in this thread to let it slip .
" freeskiing" Includes Big mountain , park , pow, and urban. So greg hill is a Freeskier by all rights. Do i agree we is the best all mountain skier? not really , do i think wallish is? fuck no . Candide , sage , benchets , pollard , maybe even abma?  Greg hill is bad ass but not the best freeskier. However he has a fuck of alot of vert

why do people on TGR hate any and all "newschool" or park skiing so much?

i just feel like TGR is to newschoolers as snowboarders are to skiers. they think they are so much greater than us, and that our sport doesnt matter nearly as much as theirs does, while we maintain plenty of respect for what they do, and who they idolize.

Sorry but twall do not deserve the best skier of the year, Candide had a brilliant year, Sammy carlson did sick things this year, Bobby brown won 2 gold medals on the xgames.
Yeah the guys form tgr are most of them tools, but whatev, atleast they have a point.

Some of those dudes on TGR have been skiing way longer than a vast majority of Newschoolers' members have been alive including myself and probably witnessed the birth of New-age freeskiing that we all know and enjoy today. You're pretty pathetic yourself using the word "fag" to describe something stupid.


That being said, T-Wall should of recieved park skier of the year. His style is just unmatched. His bag of tricks is even more impressive. But freeskier should really re-evaluate the skier of the year award and make it best all-around skier. That would really narrow things down.

The people who are hating on Tom in that thread (there are few) probably won't ever touch a rail/box in there entire life. The people hating on TGR people here can be found in the park in tall tee's on a powder day.

ALL of the above mentioned people should never post/talk about skiing again.

the thing is in park skiing, once you've got something down like sick tricks off massive jumps you'll always have it down. from there you just have to progress more and then you'll have your new trick down again..

where as in the backcountry you can never just have it down for good, there's sooooo many variables in the mountains and everythings always changing.. in the mountains mother nature's in control, the mountains welcome you, and if they want you to be their they will. If not, you have to really know what you're doing and know when to back down.. in my opinion park is nothing like that, it's all about practice..


i think a backcountry skier should have taken it, maybe not greg hill, even though what he did is truly amazing! maybe some more like Sage( in my opinion is the best freeskier right now( or candide!

for all the people saying who deserved to win the voting system was pretty retarted. correct me if i am wrong but wasn't the poll freeskier did where they set up skiers like a braquet and voted for winners of faceoffs was a terrible way to choose the skier of the year.

I love how they're like OMG HIS PANTS ARE SO LONG AND SO ARE HIS TALL TEES. Tom wearings large fitting cloths, i dont think ive seen him wear a tall tee that sticks out of his shit in awhile and i feel like alot of other skiers wear WAY baggier shit than tom. i believe you misread my post you sarcastic party pooper, i said doubles on the sun valley jump. and yeah i'm sure other people can do doubles on the sun valley jump too, but Greg Hill didn't and If Tom really wanted to skin and ski 2 millian vertical feet in 1 year i'm sure he could, cause T-wall is like Jesus, mixed with Moses, mixed with Steeze.

I'm sorry, but you just showed a complete lack of knowledge of skiing history. Do you realize that the term "freeskiing" was coined by big mountain skiers who wanted to get away from the word "extreme"? It was used to define skiing down a mountain without any set course or rules. Just skiing. A mountain, a park, a pipe, anything. Strangely enough, when people use it to classify modern freestyle, it's reducing the broad spectrum of what the word "freeskiing" was meant to encompass.

i'm more of a TGR style skier nowadays, but i still love rails and keeping up with the park scene and whatnot. plus, the layout and aesthetics of this site are just so superior it's hard to even read a thread over there

i guess i understand why the animosity betweens the sites sometimes starts, but really both sides just stereotype each other so much it's ridiculous. not everyone on this board is a tall tee wearing henrik fanboy, and not every single person on TGR is a bitter, older elitist douche.

what i understand EVEN LESS is how they and we are arguing over this contest. it was decided by VOTES in brackets... if you're getting bent out of shape over wallisch winning you need way, way more going on in your life

none of those 2 are complete allround skiers, so imho none of them deserve the title 'skier of the year' because ideally that person should be an excellent allround skier (someone like tanner or thovex who can slay anything from gnarly urban to halfpipe to ripping big lines ....)

that being said i think twall is an exceptional skier, his style and bag of tricks is virtually unsurpassed and hes definately pushing the limits in park skiing and he definately deserves the title, i can't wait for the day where tom straps some fatties to his boots and starts shredding the backcountry !

Whether Tom was the "skier of the year" or not, none of you have any right to down talk Greg Hill's accomplishment over the past year. I know most of you can't comprehend how big of an achievement 2 million vert on foot in one year is, but don't hate what you don't understand - it makes you look like an idiot.

So people can stop bringing up Greg over and over again, only a couple of people mentioned him as skier of the year honors. I think most would vote up Candide (and actually TWall said himself in the interview that he and his roommates would have voted for Candide). The TGR v. NS shit is old btw, there are douches on both forums, and people who rip on both forums. The fact that there are people here who say, "who is candide?" doesn't really help matters.

this. i believe the award is for actual skiing, not climbing and descending. greg hill may be a bad ass dude, but his accomplishments have little to do with skiing and more to do with mountaineering.
