i love the multiple impact system in the receptor bug and am really looking to buy one, but I'm having issues justifying spending that much on a helmet. The cheapest i could find it for online or in a store is $129, is there anywhere I could get one for less? thanks. and obviously, +k.
relax man, that sucks for you but $130 is still expensive for a bucket style helmet regardless. and does anyone know anything about the new receptor plus? what is different from the regular receptor?
To everyone saying to dish out the cash for the helmet and shut up, Chill. obviously he realizes that he needs to protect his brain and head, he is just trying to save a few bucks, which is harmless.
i totally know what you mean, i wear a helmet. the thing is, my helmet cost me $15 at a closeout preseason sale. I have hit my head pretty damn hard and it has been fine. For the extra money, the protection from a single super hard impact cannot be that substantial over another helmet on the market. BUT the multiple impact deal is a whole other story. that is really what would be worth paying for.
The Poc Receptor Bug is NOT a multiple impact helmet. That being said, it is one of the best helmets on the market and it's worth the money. If you want a multi-impact helmet go with the Poc Recpeptor +. I upgraded to this from a Bug and I couldn't be happier. I usually hit me head multiple times a year and a helmet has saved my ass a number of times so in my opinion it is well worth the money.
ok so is there any main difference between recepter crown and receptor bug other than no earflaps and goggle strap cuz those dont really matter to me, becuase from the pictures it has a weird liner in it
Also think of it this way, a helmet may reduce risk of serious brain damage, but it is not get out of brain damage free card. There is no 100% guarantee that you will not have a messed up noggin. :)
look on outlet sites. i know the evo.com outlet had them in the summer for like 80 i think. i was gonna get one but they were sold out of black xxl, and my holt hasnt taken any serious hits.
also im not really an expert on helmets, but the one impact rule is one major impact, correct? obviously everybody hits their head occasionally, especially skiing park, but not huge slams.
I've had 2 concussions in my standard Receptor Bug helmet. The second caused me to black out and have temporary amnesia. Does this mean that my helmet is now defective?
Slight thread jack, but if I remove the soft padding from my receptor bug is it sacrificing its protection at all? Or is that all from the hard foam against the plastic?
"Defective" is not the right word, but it would be deemed unsafe by the company. Most if not all helmets are good for 1 concussion grade impact, and something most people don't know is that they are now dated, typically between 3-5 years from production, because the materials start to break down.
