I want to get some footage but don't know where to start when it comes
to cameras and mounting. Should i go spend the money at a store and buy
all the equipment? Or just duct tape some shit together and hope it
works?

almost all are done with either GoPro or Contour cams. thats a good place to start. then its just different mounts

Surf mounts are sick as it comes with the fin one the you can drill a hole through and make it universal between poles, i have 3 poles different sizes and you just bolt the mount into it, by cutting slots into the end of poles, really hard to explain without pics so im just gonna give up now..
