The world has too many people. In the next 40 years, the world's population could grow by another 50% to 9 billion people with most of the growth taking place in less developed regions. This will create a significant burden on the world's resources. Although dealing now with the causes of climate change is important, it's more important to deal with the underlying problem. There are too many of us.

Some nations in Africa are currently unable to adequately feed their citizens and yet Africa's population could double within the next 30 years.

Something needs to be done. Humans are an arrogant species and are destroying a very unique planet and its frustrating as hell. Sure most people on here wont give a fuck and/or will dish out hate but I dont care. Something needs to be done soon or the planets fucked./rant

i have had 4 very close relatives die because of cancer. as much as cancer absolutely sucks when its killing someone close to you, i dont believe that a cure to cancer would necessarily be a good thing. as modern medical science moves towards cures for diseases such as these, life expectancy goes up. as people begin living longer, and no longer dying a death that would have killed them 20 years ago, the population is bound to exponentially increase. as cruel as it sounds, i believe that super-diseases like cancer really are a natural population control. being scientifically minded it creates a conflict: would you rather see the advancement of medicine hindered if it meant controlling the world population that can and will destroy the worlds natural resources....thats my 2 cents

nailed it and this right here shows that the political sectrum in most definitley a circle not a line. A very liberal view on this is that if modern medicine is going to be taken away from some it shoulf be from taken from all so in a sense this would be going back before modern medicine was so advanced which is a reactionary view point also. (reacationary is a radical conservative). Spooky huh? also that graph suggests that modern medicine should be taken from developing countrie but not industrialized one. This would meen that americans get to keep going to the doctor for a common cold (that pisses me off when eople do that) but for say african do not get to have their broken leg set. does that seem fair? I think a solution for alot of mankinds problems is to stop trying to play god. I watched a This American Life in which they visited a Pig factory. There are no longer pig farms there are factories. Genetisists have fucked with the pig so much that IT has virtualy no immue system so the facilities that pigs are raised in are biologicaly sealed from the outside world. PRetty god damn fucked up. So NS you go to the nearest scientificul institution and you fire bomb that bitch to the ground for the good of the GOD DAMN world.

David there are clearly ways to stop it they're just not ethical in any way.. other than a birth limit which I see no problem in whatsoever. Just make every family have a limit of 2 children, I could see that helping a bit.

There is no way a birth limit will ever pass in the US. And I dont see anything drastic happening anytime soon unless we go to war with China which in that case we will all likely die from nuclear winter and radiation...

there should be laws placed against reproduction, and then everyone would be forced to adopt. leaving less homeless fucked up children and less children being born.

Disagree......The population is not expected to keep increasing at the current rate, and will hopefully plateau around 12 billion. The earth has enough resources to support this large a population, if more sensible practices are employed. True, we're in trouble if everyone ends up living a North American lifestyle, but if everyone used what they needed, we'll be fine. Using less seems like a better option than letting sick people die to me

This is a little of extreme but China has done it before and it worked for a little while.... apply a number of kid policy, so if you say only two kids per family. Then if you want more you would have to pay a tax of some sort etc.
But it would have to be enforced better than in China, they ended up with a surplus of males because they would have an abortion if it was a female. This is a little bit extreme but the human population is growing at an exponential rate and our planet can't sustain us forever.

please read my post on page 1 about this, a birth rate is rediculous AND DOES NOT WORK IN CHINA, people still have multiple childrens and just so you know they dont get abortions on a rice field 1000+ miles away from a hospital, they have their baby and drop it off on the side of the road, not to sound mean but its the truth.

plus no one in america would agree with the birth rate, and there is no way to properly implement birth rates as people get pregnant all the time on accident, are you supporting millions more abortions every year then?

if it is necessary. Its not just over population thats the problem, its that we are consuming too many resources too quickly, polluting many parts of the earth, and destroying valuable ecosystems. I know there is not much that we can do but thats also the attitude that gets nothing done.
