Full Till/Allen Lam's V-Cut

What is allen lam's v-cut? i understand its a modification of some sort but what is it? pics would be helpful :) and also does anyone have a link of the video of someone dunking in Fulltilts? i heard about it on their video and was curious. thanks.

P.S. I was kind of confused as to where to place this because it is my first post on NS. I think i'll make another thread for the Full Tilt dunk thing in Ski Gabber.

V cut makes the cuff more flexible giving you a greater range of movement. plus you make it shorter as well. All of this sounds dangerous on skis but I wouldn't mind a bit more flexibility. you just gotta be good at landing and not killing your ankles. we do it on skates.

he comes from a inline background, he feels more comfortable skiing with his boots that way.

I come from a racing background, I have my boots pretty damn stiff and set up almost the exact same as a race boot

too each is own, if you don't like it don't do it

Allen's a good guy, he really doesn't deserve hate for wanting to do things differently...I wont't take a stance on some of his comments online cause most of mine are just as bad

 I really do hope this does not catch on, there will be so many brocken anckles and shin bones. Do some research why did skiing move from low boots to higher boots, answer people got hurt in low boots. Really if you want them softer and more give them more back lean there are far better ways. In SPKs take the flex lock rivots out, softer boot. If you want more backward lean, take the cuff off and grind the bottom of it down so the boot can lean back further, and you can leave the soft spoiler in to cushion the calf. What he has done will bend the shin bone right in the middle, leading to possibly more shin pain and also the very real chance of a brocken shin bone.

I agree with asian_allen. i land huge shit on skates all the time and don't break my ankles. and yeah blah blah skis on feet is different. fact is, I can stick landings right under my bindings  all the time even with my boots unbuckled.

^ and the shin bone won't break like that unless when you land, you plow into your boots and force your knee to bend over them. try absorbing it with your whole knee and bend, the boot will bend with him more..

progression is the damned-est of things. i love the haters, their parents are republicans that still ride straight skis.

the v-cut is a step towards freestyle movement in skiing. it allows the tongue of the "raichelle" design ski boot to actually allow forward lean. without the mod its just a solid race boot.

the only problem is that its not enough support, depending on the amount of modding, when the boot becomes flexible enough it also becomes a flat tire.

that is where rocker technology comes into play.

also you can land and bend at the ankle giving more absorption for landings than taking it all straight up your leg or getting forced back seat

No you dont, but maybe look into why manufactures dont do what your doing. There is a reason, they have tried it all before. I have worked in the ski industry for 8 years and have tried all sorts to make my boots different and more comfy, but there is a reason why the big maunfactres do what they do. Also have you considered maybe you have just been lucky so far, and now you have posted videos showing how to do what you have done, more kids will try it. Sooner or later a kid will break a leg and you do relise you will be liable. It wont be salomon or full tilt, it will be you as you have created videos showing exactly how to mod boots. Im not against trying out new things but this is not a good idea and will result in injury sonner or later, I was just wanting to try to prevent any injuries. As far as you though, do what you like.

Its a really cool idea, and i give him props for doing it. i can see how i would work well for purely park riding. Personally i would never ride it, mainly because it seems bad for what i like to do on my skis. The boot industry has been lacking any sort of innovations for a while, so this is pretty cool to see.

there's few rollerbladers to begin with, and there's even fewer who also ski. not everyone wants or can handle a boot thats super flexy and not supportive.
