Who do you think is the richest skier?

i would have to say and i hate to say it but tom wallisch just because of the fact that his sponsors have a lot of money and i have seen him in a lot of ads lately... what do yu guys think? no hate please

As far as I know riders make money from the following:

Endorsements - Paying them to ride for a company w/ no strings attached
Endorsements - Paying them when they win competitions
Endorsements - Paying them when they get shots in magazines and

Contests - Winning contests
Contests - Being payed to compete

Movies - Don't think they typically pay riders

Can anyone think of any other ways riders make money?

For me this list means that the highest paid skiers will be those in movies, who compete and place.....or are very established in the industry and are highly recognizable, thus earning very large endorsements.

In no particular order I'd imagine these 7 are definitely in the top 10

Simon Dumont
Jon Olsson
Bobby Brown
Tom Wallisch
Sammy Carlson
Jossi Wells
Andreas Hatveit

To whoever that idiot is talking about people at TGR don't care about Tom or whatever. I honestly think Tom doesnt care about what TGR thinks, and most people don't even know what the fuck TGR even is, so who the fuck cares?

I can't believe this thread still exists.

Forbes did a survey in late 2008 on the "top ten earners in action sports." Not a single freeskier was on the list. And the list bottomed out at $1 million/year. Thus, any and all arguments from this thread are invalid...unless they take into account the idea of a "household name."

Companies want riders that can become household names. But when you look at skiing today, there are only a few names that those people outside of the ski industry would recognize:

Lindsay Vonn
Bode Miller
Warren Miller

Whereas for snowboarding, skateboarding, etc., you have a much wider list of individuals from which to draw:

Shaun White
Tony Hawk
Ryan Sheckler
Danny Kass
Travis Pastrana

The list of skiers that are household names (generally those who earn the most) is surprisingly short. There are probably three. That's it. And all of the riders are racers with the remaining a filmmaker. It's not hard to guess that these individuals make the most out of any skier in the world today. Period.

There is too long of a road ahead for freeskiing to make it to the top ten. I'm hearing a lot of people arguing about Winter X and that riders like Bobby Brown and Tom Wallisch should be visible to the general public. You have no fucking clue. When you compare the visibility of Winter X to the Winter Olympics, there is no comparison. At the same time, when you compare the visibility of snowboarding at Winter X to the visibility of skiing at Winter X, again, there is no comparison. Until freeskiing events like slopestyle and halfpipe are added to the Winter Olympics; until Winter X increases the visibility of freeskiing programming, freeskiing has no hope of being in the top ten.

only legit reply here - very accurate. Bode and Vonn are worth a fortune due to being actual american sports stars, nationally recognizable names - primarily due to the olypmics, which has also done shawn whites money making potential no harm = first step - freeskiing needs to become a major winter olympic discipline.

Okay, below 10 millions, we can say 9,5 swedish kronors, 9,5 million skr is 1 346 906,37 USD.
And thats every year, I know he hasn't made exactly that much every year. But Im sure he has alot of money.

That he is a douche is an other story. Taking cred for stuff he hasn't made och found..

tom is on his way up. i dont think that freeskiers will ever touch what racers make, but ive heard that wallisch is smart with his money, and hes getting known, even outside our sport

And no, skiers in Sweden does'nt get paid more than skiers in like the US.
