Yeah, It really confuses me when I see confederate flags in NY too. I go to a little redneck college about an hour from Rochester, and it's unbelievable how many confederate flags people have. One kid even painted his pickup truck to look like one. Disgusting.

my friend Tim's phone didn't have a flash so we had to turn on the car, turn the car around to face the license plate and take a picture..all while the guy is inside watching. He came out to try and stop us but we got in the car and PEAAAAACED. He looked like grizzly adams if he was a crack addict.

and you can't use the standard reply of intentionally vague ideals like "traditions" or "heritage" or "conservatism". tell me what values and ideology would have you waving that flag on your car rather than describing yourself as a conservative, or a libertarian (an actual legitimate ideology about private/states' rights)

Okay yeah, more often then not the rebel flag is flown by racist douches and bigots alike, but in the South, there are plenty of people that honestly fly it as a sign of their southern pride/heritage. Their ancestors fought for the Confederates, and to many, that's a reason to fly the flag.

there is a kid at my school who drives a big truck to school with a confederate flag painted (professionally) onto his back window. there is also a big decal of 2 crossed six-shooters on his bumper.

some guy who lives in my town has his entire garage wall painted as the confederate flag with the words "the south will rise again" across it. i saw it once when his garage door was up.

i live in central ontario BTW, an hour north of toronto...

the irish flag is a symbol for an entire country's history and culture. the confederate flag only has meaning as a reactionary movement against the existing state, with no clear definitive characteristics beyond bigotry and sister-fucking
