YES, I know that there is a lot of hipster shit on the website (DISCLAIMER: I am not against hipster music, I find some of it good in my opinion, but most of NS seems to dislike it.)  but if you dig a bit you can find some good stuff, here's an example:

Just listen to Haterism, not too bad for a free download. It also features quests which are basically achievements you get to earn reputation on the site. If you end up making an account, say you were referred by me, niklampard. Now go have fun NS.

at first glance looks kind of like hypemachine with more emphasis on indie rock and less on electro/dubstep/remixes/etc. accurate assessment? thanks for the link though. will explore more tomorrow

not necessarily. It does seem to have a lot of indie, but there is a lot of electonic stuff, covers (like good ones, not the shit ones you find of 15 year old kids in their bedrooms on youtube), and remixes also. It's very diverse.
