What is your oppinion of racers in the park?

I know many racers that have twin tips and ski in the park when they are not wearing gay GS suits and being all gay. Even if they are good, what is your opinion of them being in the park?

I don't often post here but i now feel obliged. If that (coach) actually was muttering about park rats, then he's likely an asshole, but he isn't a reflection of all race coaches. The reason he didn't let you on the course though, is legitimate. some guy said before that racers pay lots of money to have a private course, and even just in that sense have a right to their own lane. As for why you and anybody else that isn't race training (don't even question going on a course if there is a race) shouldn't go down a course is that the athletes going down the course could hit you very hard and fast as they are looking at most 4 gates ahead, not only that, And they don't want to wait for some stranger to finish while they try to concentrate. Also seeing someone on course loooking cluelessly and being unaware of you while you are pinning it is disturbing and ruins your run. Another reason the public should pine away from using courses is that they actually can damage the course with dull skis, and lack of skill in the "clean turning" aspect of skiing. Dull skis and poor form will often make you skip and jitter down the course, spraying snow and making ruts.

didnt' think i would write that much but i've been training gates a lot frequently and have had to cope with things like the public wandering into a super g course midway and running the gates, so i'm somewhat extra agitated about it right now.

i am actually part of a free ride team so i pay the same as the racers. and i am not saying that racing is bad, its cool in its own way, just not my style.

i think its funny to see racers in the park. youre not really going to make a huge difference no matter what you try to do. there will always be people like that in the park. so why get angry at them when you can laugh at them instead?

the only time i'm in the park, when i'm not filming, i'm just straight airing jumps on race skis, haha

you have a point, and i have infinite respect for racers. i think the issue here is the quality and experience of the skier. a know olympic skier cross skiers who ski parks all the time on twinnies to get air practise. they have a lot of respect for the features and they know how to use them without damaging jumps etc.

what i hate seeing is when someone jumps off the side of a kicker thats set up for a rail. that really ruins it

It's like some mountains that only let skiers in and now snowboarders. I have no problem with them in the park as long as they're hitting the jumps. As skiers, we are all their to have fun and enjoy ourselves.

I don't particularly like the racer mentality of many racers because it is pretty cocky but i've skied and ridden the lift with many race coaches and i enjoy asking them for tips and what not.

Don't forget about all the waivers that we have to sign.  Thats the other reason the public isn't allowed to race.  I understand that people in the park that don't know what they are doing is annoying but i think that ski racers arn't the people that you should be pissed at.  Around here its the fibs(fucken illinois bastards) that come up on the weekends and ruin everything.  I don't know who ruins your shit but im guessing it is more than just racers.

why all the hate on racers? were all skiers looking to have fun. gs suits arent the most comfortable thing but they make differences so we wear them. i agree that if someone is being a noob, side jumping, ruining rail lips, messing up landings and destroying jumps then yeah, they dont belong there, but it shouldnt be because they are racers. i race... ill say i can hold my own in a park, im comfortable doing a 5 and can do rails with confidence. my friends and i like to have fun and know how to ski park quite well so i dont like how people think just because we are racers we cant ski park. yes maybe most racers may not know how to ski park properly, but i dont like the stereotype that all of us dont know. granted we dont exactly wear our gs suits into the park because they really arent that comfortable, sometimes we just have them on.

if someone comes across our course wanting to run it, i wouldnt mind if theyre not bothering anyone and can ski half well. but yes we do pay a lot of money for private courses and trails so i do shake my head when people who dont know how to ski come and do it. mutual respect, hopefully we can shake the hate

It's not hating on racers all the time in the park, it's hating on specific racers that either are too ignorant to realise what they are doing or too inexperienced to realise what they are doing is wrong. At the higher level, it is very unlikely that you will see racers "screwing up your park". It is usually the less experienced racers, the same as the less experience members of the public that wreck the course. If a racer has enough confidence to hit the park in a race suit then it is unlikely that he will do something to intentionally wreck the jumps or will go off rail jumps sideways.

It's very naive of you to hate on all racers, a lot of them are more experienced and do less "damage" to the jumps then the average park rat. All parks that racrs are hitting are public, and as members of the public they are entitled to hit it with their lift passes. Unlike race courses that are private, fenced off and marked as private. The racers at most mountains pay dearly for the privilege of this and it is mainly for safety reasons (racers not running into members of the public, the right "line" being marked on the course and a smoother course to run on).

the worst thing is when gapers and their children go thru the park weaving aimlessly through the features and going off the side of rail lips.

or sometimes kids go up to jumps and sit on the knuckes or dont have enough speed to get to the top and fall.     so often im wating to drop and when its my turn some kid that cant ski comes thru gose off the rail lip, falls next to the rail and cant get up for 5 minutes. 

 you should be able to ski and hit at least half the features before you can enter the park.

As long as they aren't cruising in their side jumping packs, I don't really care. I do not like when they decide to have race training in the park either. I know some racers that throw down decently in the park, so I don't have a problem with racers that often.
