We're heading up to the Vail area Sunday and I was wondering if anyone has some recent observations on the snowpack/avy conditions. Specifically north through east facing aspects. Thanks!

It's pretty horrible right now. The snow that came yesterday was super heavy and breaking off in slabs in the back bowls of the resort. I wouldnt go out of bounds right now anywhere near here.

After reviewing the (considerable danger) forecast and popping out a 30' x 15' x 8" slab inbounds in Sunup bowl we decided to stay inbounds. Can I get some help waiting for conditions to improve instead?

...seen plenty of tracks down watertower, and a few down racquet club... i'd stay away for now, waiting for things to calm down...

lots of new fresh windblown snow on steep terrain, bad idea.
I haven't been up but from what I hear most of vail pass is legit right now.

I was there on Tuesday of this week, did two laps around the watertower area. Lots of whoomphing, steeper areas are definitely a no-go, and stay the f out of terrain traps. Snow was chest deep in spots though, super fun.

skied east vail today, definietly stay in the woods, thats what we did, bring your beacons and stay safe, just stay in the wooded areas and you should be fine.
All times are Eastern (-5)
