I just did yesterday , cutting was fine (much like a hockeystick) but the grips on mine were alot higher quality , it took about 15 min per pole to get the grip off ( with a heat gun vice and errrry tool youde ever need) but when i went to put them back on the grip was constructed differently then most poles ive used before and i could only get it on about half way. You cant tell but i wanted to cut down 4 in and only ended up with 2 in ...
if you don't have a pipe cutter you can go to any hardware store and just ask them if you can use theirs, or if they can do it for you. they should be cool about it
i never heard of the hot water trick. but i put my poles in a vice grip and yank on it until the grips came off. then leave it in the vice and saw with a hack saw. if you dont have a hack saw just buy the replaceable hack saw blades at a hardware store and put some thick gloves on and cut away. its much cheaper than buying the whole hack saw itself
