Nh third offense alcohol charge

look, im a college student. i have fucked up. twice as a freshman. and this year as a junior i got too drunk and was stopped by the cops. I am facing a $1000 fine and 2 year loss of drivers lisence. I just want to know if hiring a lawyer can possibly lower the 2 year sentence with any negotiation.

Maybe tell me a situation in which a lawyer got you out of a tough situation..... anything helps

Get a lawyer, especially if you do not want to lose license. No personal experience on the issue, but at least go have a consultation with a lawyer familiar with NH laws so you can find out what action to take from there.

yes having a lawyer can help. ive actually known people that got arrested for drunk driving and due to their rich parents hiring really good lawyers they got off with very little to no punishment. One of my other friends is going through this process right now actually.

Same here. I know one kid you was drunk, in an unregistered jeep, after the curfew (he was underage at the time) and his parents hired the best lawyer they could find. He ended up with only a six month license suspension, a small fine, and a year of probation when he got his license back. He should've gotten (and deserved) something like a 2 year suspension, and a huge fine, and would have had to retake the license test and pay all the fees for that.

truthfully this is sometimes the best thing to do.

im not saying you necessarily deserve this, i dont know your situation and im not gonna tell you what to do. But the punishments are there for a reason.

all the charges have nothing to do with driving. i was never in a car, just walking home from parties or in dorms. loss of lisence is rediculous. one of the dumbest nh laws.

but i understand why they do it, because if kids stay away from alcohol in general they will be less prone to drunk driving.

i am attempting to handle this issue by myself with no help from my parents (they actually dont know), I just hope that the judge can help me because I am a good student and am working on being a teacher.

yeah if you were not driving drunk it does seem a bit unfair to lose your license. Really unlucky thats happened three times. Are cops stingy in nh?

That's rough. That should not be happening at all though, that is a load of shit. Will drinking increase the chances of someone drunk driving? Maybe, but you have not demonstrated that that is the case for you. If cars were never involved in anyway in your times getting in trouble, then I do not see why your license has to be brought into this. Why do the states have a 21 drinking age AND brutal punishments for getting caught? In Alberta where I lived, I knew a lot of kids who got 150 dollar liquor tickets, and that was all they ever got. It seems like I've heard a lot of stories like this of people just getting fucked in the states.

Did you read the thread at all? I bet you drink and you're underage. Or did if you're not anymore.
Oh, and I wanted to say this before, definitely get a lawyer. Can help lower the penalties a lot, so while it'll cost you quite a bit of money, it will actually help A LOT in the long run.

i just did a 15,000 word thesis that sort of relates to this issue...

essentially the law is too complicated for you (or any layman) to understand fully. that's why we employ lawyers. they have the most expertise and therefore they can exercise your full rights under the law much better than you can with a bit of internet research.

long story cut short i dont give a shit what you did wrong, but hire a lawyer and i genuinely wish you the best of luck. hope everything gets sorted out.

well brahhh i think yer parents are gonna find out eventually. Especially if your license gets suspended. I was in a similar situation cept I was driving. I blew .024 which is literally nothing, so the cop gave me my first underage citation. I called the court diversion the next day and told them to hold onto my paper work so it didnt get sent home. Thought i would fly it under the radar by my parents, but eventually a letter came from the "County Court Diversion Center" and my mom found out. I told them it was from a party and not while I was driving so i got out of that hot water, but it will never work to hide it from your parents. its better to get out with it so they can help you as much as possible. IMO

oh i know they will find out eventually, just didnt feel like ruining christmas. and we have other family issues going on, this would just add unneeded fuel to the fire at this point. I will tell them when it is all over with when i know the definite punishment.

1) I hate drunk drivers, they kill people nearly nightly. I have lost 3 friends to drunk drivers.
2)STOP DRIVING DRUNK YOU FUCKING RETARD! I WAS A COLLEGE STUDENT TOO AND DIDN'T FEEL THE NEED TO DRIVE DRUNK ONCE IN 4 YEARS!

But I am going to help you.a

If you lawyer up, which I highly suggest, they can either a)negotiate a slightly shorter loss of licence (6 months is typical) or get you a hardship (driving during daylight/work day hours) or b) find some flaw in the police report/logs/arrest procedures and get the whole thing thrown out and traded for probation and, without a doubt in your case, more diversion.

word man, keene cops are dicks. i was parked outside of randell for like 3 minutes and a cop came and eventually searched my car. fucked up.
Hire a lawyer and they can probly bring the sentence down if you make an agreement, like AA classes or something. thats what i had to do when i got arrested in santa Barbara CA.

get a lawyer, you never know how much they can help you until your at the stand, it all depends on the judge and how the lawyer interacts with him/her, in my case i got 3 speeding tickets in 6 weeks all 20 mph over the limit, rolling a stopsign, and failure to respond to a traffic signal, i was supposed to get like 4 different license suspensions and a grand in fines because 2 moving violations in 6 months suspends your license n i got 5 in 6 weeks, but the lawyer got it knocked down too 2 parking tickets and failure to repsond to a traffic signal and i didnt lose my license but still had to pay like 800 in fines

A lawyer will run you more then the $1000.

2 years of not driving will teach you to be resourceful. Just roll with it and use it as a learning experience.

1) You cannot lose your license via a drinking violation if it's just a cop walking up to you on the street and arresting you for public drunkenness...it has to be a moving violation so maybe you should learn how to read and then do some research.
2) /claim....my dad is a VT Po-Po so I would know.
