Yea actually my friend rocked his Outback out of a ditch with a foot and a half of snow just yesterday. His car is a manual, and he has all weather tires on. The jacked up Tacoma with sand bags in the back and chains got stuck. It was 4WD. AWD and 4WD are not "completely different systems". You have to be more specific than that. Some AWD is part time all wheel drive with a center differential that cant transfer power for shit. I'd take Audi Quattro over Toyota 4WD any day.

you title the thread as if it's something to hold against all new yorkers, generalizing the intelligence and driving ability of all new yorkers. this is just a few dumbasses who got together and were dumbasses. a more accurate title would have been, "a douchbag/dumbass's way of getting a vehicle out of snow."

What kind of prick shouts from a window with such a dickweed accent "Juu reetaaadhs! Aar ju fakin STUUPPEED!?" for four minutes?

Still, I don't know what the hell those drivers were thinking, and secondly, if that is counted as an emergency situation then it's not looking too good for a lot of car owners if the liability is on their necks.

F250 diesel with a yard of sand in the bed and chains on the tires...... I have never gotten stuck and 2 weeks ago i was driving through drifts up to my hood in some places.... lets see a suby do that.

Do it all the time big guy. This is my driveway. To give you an idea, it's heavy, wet snow about 3ft deep for 200ft until you get to the end of my driveway in which it's at least 5ft of snowbank on any given day.

I'm not trying to say trucks are the greatest things in snow or that they can make a moron drive like a pro, I'm just saying in deeper snow I'd rather have ground clearance and large tires. No matter what drive system you've got you're gonna slide eventually.

Snowcase I'd love to see a pic of your car driving through that pile, or even with snow half way up the tires.

No, the city will pay for it because DUMB ASS BLOOMBERG NEVER DECLARED A SNOW EMERGENCY. My fucking street was untouched for 5 days, fuck Bloomberg, he takes care of Manhattan and tells the other boroughs to fuck themselves.

Also, fuck anyone who says New Yorkers can't drive in snow. Boston and NYC is the hardest place to drive when it snows, bar none. Manhattan is a tiny island full of buildings, you think they can just plow the snow? The city closes entire blocks, plows, puts the snow into dump trucks and drops it in the east river. Outer boroughs is the same, we just don't have anywhere to put the snow. You guys that live everywhere else, even New Jersey, have tons of space for the snow, I would much rather get dumped on somewhere out where there are wide roads and woods and shit to put the snow in.

The city also takes prisoners out of Rikers Island and gives them shovels and makes them to shovel the streets during heavy snow.
