Do people still collect baseball cards? What makes them worth $$

Do they?

I just dug up around 300 cards which a neighbour gave me when he moved away around 98-99 or so. Most of the cards are from the 87-91 era.

The thing is, I don't know shit about cards, let alone what makes cards valuable. Is it the fame of a player that makes a card $$$$, and how do you know if a card is rare? Is there anywhere I could get them valued?

I figure, just save em till you're like 80.  They'll either be worth nothing (likely), or perhaps a lot.  I have a big sports card collection that's gathering dust, maybe it'll be worth something when I'm 80, at least that's the hope.  Otherwise it's just mini posters with stats on the back haha.

Find a mint Honus Wagner and you could have your self close to 3 mil.

but basically is the condition, fame of the player and age of the card...there is also misprint cards or cards with odd stories like that Honus Wagner card.

pretty much zero value. magic on the other hand...

some baseball cards can be worth quite a bit. just depends on the card, series, rarity, demand, etc. Most are worth jack shit, but you never know. Beckett as mentioned, or go to local card shops and see what's up.

I don't understand why anybody would pay any large amount of money, let alone several million for a baseball card. I mean what do you do with it? Try and sell it for more?

i have a sammy sosa and mark mcguire's rookie cards. hot shit back when they were both chasing the record. my dad has a jackie robinson rookie card, thats thing is worth some money for sure

sorry, had to drop that claim. pick up a tuff stuff magazine, fairly easy to use and will tell you what certain cards are going for

I've got a mint condition set of Brooks Robinson cards that are 1 of 100 in a collection. And every card is personally signed by him. Also hella Cal Ripken Jr cards

They are quite valuable, I have an ichiro suziki rookie card, derek jeter game used jersey card which im going to get autographed hopefully, even though its football a joe montana i believe is his rookie card im going to hold onto these for awhile...maybe pass them down to my kids at some point in their life. oh ya i also have griffey jr. rookie card...yeah i have some more but i dont feel like typing them all out.

Most cards arent worth anything nowadays.  They used to be worth more because people cared and they were more rare.  Now not too many people collect and they mass produce all of em.  I have a collection with some pretty special cards but I hold onto them more for fun rather than a profit. 

Becket would probably be your best bet trying to price them all out but honestly its probably not worth the time.  just try and sell them to little kids

A magazine called beckett will allow you to look up prices. Your average bonds/sosa/mcguire rookie card is worth about 15-30 bucks, now in great condition and you get them graded and they have a pristine or mint rating 9 or 10/10 that price can skyrocket. Some rookie cards are way overpopulated, so they are common and not worth much, others are much more of a limited edition run, making them much more valuable. Bottom line, store them properly, so when your 80 they are worth some coin!

*New baseball cards are pretty much worthless unless they are part of a limited series because they are so mass produced. Cards from the 70s and back are a lot less common and hard to find in good condition, meaning that they have the potential to be worth more.

Yea you can go to a pawn shop to see how much theyre worth.

The cards that are worth alot are the old ones and rookie cards, like my Derek Jeter rookie card is probs worth alot.
