Help convince my parents to let me have a 18th bday party WITH alcohol

so my parents are almost letting me have a party at my house for my birthday. i turn 18 january 2 btw. i gave them a number of 20-25 kids.

they are kinda scared to do it cuz they dont wanna get arrested.

i told them that we put up signs that say "no drinking unless over 21" so they cant sue. drivers either sleep over ordont drink.

does NS have any ideas to convince my parents

I'm most surprised with the fact that apparently in the us you have to take peoples keys to stop them driving drunk. I live in the uk, the drinking age is 18 and none of my friends ever even think of doing it. Maybe the law is stricter over here?

my friends parents let him do this at his house. and hes only a junior. Its a nice house kinda in the middle of nowhere and after a certain time his dad blocks the driveway and everyone has to sleep over. generally about 130. His parents are so tight. I was carrying a keg into their basement and his dad just smiles and gives me a funny look. he has like upwards of 40 people too. soo fun.

Just tell them that 21 years of age to drink is fucking hilarious when you can drive at 16. Also mention that  almost the entire rest of the world has a 18 year limit to drink

highschool kids drinking is the worst...my buddy just finished up college and we went out celebrating and swung over to his parents house to pick up a couple bottles of whiskey...walk into the house and his sister is having a party and there is girls crying, kids puking, just a mess every where and they are loud as fuck.

yes of course we've been through that stage but fuck when I'm a parent my kids won't drink at my place.

we were at this girls house. got bombed, we were really pissed cuz we lost our football game. parents werent home

so my friend, this big norwegian, he kills like a bottle of belvadier that we found at this girls house.
we end up going to this food place late night, and he passes out and throws up. we try to move him but hes to big and he ends up on the pavement in the parking lot. some random people call 911. he gets taken to the hospital (although he just needed to sleep it off).

now me and two other guys are getting questioned, everyone else left.
we say we were at this girls house. the cops want us to come down to the station to make an official statement. so we call my dad to meet us there (hes a lawyer) and he tells the cops we arent going to talk, we want our friend to be ok, we dont want to rat anyone out.

some other people cleaned up the girls house and her persent came home (who were cool with drinking anyway) and when the cops came, they just denied that anything happened.

then my friend who had to go to the hospital, he told the cops he didnt want to make a statement.


so in the end, nothing happened. no one got in trouble. you just need to be smart, and dont let the cops intimidate you

parents that throw parties for their kids are fucking sketchy. i was at this girls house with like 40+ people once, all drunk as fuck, and her dad started aggressively hitting on my friend molly.


dont let your dad be that guy.

Someone please correct me when I say that it can't be too different in Canada in terms of police shutting down the party. PLEASE.


every second/third house party at least one patrol car shows up, tells us to quiet down, and if it's too rowdy they might call another car to calm us down and get everyone out of the house at a certain hour.

worst case scenario: if it's a huge out of control rager, the houseowner gets a $175ish ticket that has to be paid like a parking ticket, and usually the parents give it to the kid to pay off.

if any one of those kids walk home from your party drunk and get hurt, you are liable. this includes the people 21 and over as well. not a good idea. don't be mad when your parents say they don't want to do it.

considering most 18 year olds act like dumbasses when they get ahold of alcohol, i wouldn't see why they would let you do this.

yup completely different atleast in my small town that I grew up in the cops have nothing better to do...so if they come they are handing out underages to everyone they catch...so its a mad scramble.

I live in canada and ive been to plenty house parties with underage drinkers with the parents home and if cops come they just tell everyone to go home. The parents rarely get in shit.

Oh well, and hurray for lower drinking ages in canada! 18/19!! woot woot

The legal drinking/buying Alcohol age in Denmark is 16. You're also allowed to drink in public.

As an ending I would like to say that Denmark has the european(maybe world?) record in most % teenagers drunk. You are also allowed to have weed on you for "personal use" without any papers, limited amount ofc.

Im getting the sense that house parties (under age ones..16,17,18 etc) arent much of a regular occruance for you guys. Im guessing this is mainly due to strict cops. Correct me if im wrong though.

Where i live there a bunch of house parties going on basically every weekend in my town. its not a small town its a suburb of Ottawa and we do have cops around and shit.

Like one of my other fellow canadians mentioned a couple posts up, the cops only usually get called to every second or third party and usually just try and calm everyone down and talk to the house owner (or the kids of the house in many cases) and make sure no one is stealing or breaking shit and that they have it under control. they then usually tell everyone to clear out and they will make you pour out open beers but ive walked by cops carrying 24's a bunch of times and they never care.

I guess there is a big difference in terms of strictness of cops in canada and the us
