Help convince my parents to let me have a 18th bday party WITH alcohol

so my parents are almost letting me have a party at my house for my birthday. i turn 18 january 2 btw. i gave them a number of 20-25 kids.

they are kinda scared to do it cuz they dont wanna get arrested.

i told them that we put up signs that say "no drinking unless over 21" so they cant sue. drivers either sleep over ordont drink.

does NS have any ideas to convince my parents

theres a rule in connecticut that if cops come, even if parents are home, they are strictly reliable for their kid. if theres underage drinking their fucked

i has a similar situation, but 16 and 17. i was totally honest with em and said look high school kids, we drink. they know this, the're fine with it. additionally i in formed them that, unbless the police have REASONABLE suspicion anything illegal is going on, they cant come in unless they have a warrent. if your not too loud, and they cant actually SEE kids drinking, they have no right to enter your property. i also made a ppt. explaining the nights plans (we had a party bus, dinner ect.). just tell them your taking keys on entering, they can do sobriety test before people leave, and if not they HAVE to stay. good luck and hope your b day kciks ass.

the best thing aboiut having everyone spend the night is you automatically get a bedroom (yours) so if theres a special lady in your life..... yanawadimean

Anyone who says ur rents won't or can't get arrested is a dumbass. If you get caught or turned in your rents can lose everything. Their job, house , etc if you get caught having an underage party not only will people get fines your fucking up your rents life. If they don't want it then don't force it, all you need is one kid to over do it and end up in a hospital . The US is sooooo sue happy it would be easy money

Risks > rewards     for your parents.

In fact, there's no real reward for them besides knowing you have a good time.  Are your parents not down with taking a night away from home? Rent em a nice hotel room on hotwire.com and get them a gift certificate for a good restaurant.  You could always try to do it somewhere else but it's nice to have your own bedroom, like another poster already brought up. 

Kinda stupid there is so much liability involved in such a simple party, fucking US of A.  We are all about safety > fun to the extent that it ruins things.

All this is true. Problem is you just brushed off the fact that they can come in if they get a warrant. Lucky I was not in attendance but all my buds did the exact same thing and when the cops came they said hey you can't come in, you cant see us, you have nothing. So the cops just surrounded the house and chilled until they got the warrant. Legal action ensued.

Don't get me wrong, I completely support this. Just lettin you know.

Very true. It's best to not have the law involved at all. Make sure no one gets sonar gone they will hurt themselves/ other (legal action) maybe get 1 or 2 "bartender" who monitor consumption so no one gets outbid control. Also talk to your neighbors, tell em whats up. Your having a party, yoir parents know about it, after (set time 11 or 12) well be sure to keep it quiet. Then make sure you regulate the music noise. Have everyone stay inside after that and you'll be fine. Having a discussion with your parents will help, as you can weigh the consequences Vs. Rewards. My parents did this and really made me think about alllllll the shit that could gonwrong and made me think up solutions. Youbshould have yours do this too, that shouldnsettle their fears. my friends mom does not give a fuck at all. We were at her house last year for after prom and she was chilling with us and drinking. I went out for a cig with her hahaha.

Just say theres no hard alcohol. Have her take the keys from everybody and let her come down and check on you guys every now and then. Thats what my friends mom does

doesnt matter if you have signs. if some dumb kid gets drunk and hurts himself theyre gonna get sued, and your gonna live on the street. last weekend at a party near my house some kid passed out in the driveway and got ran over and died. shit happens when underages drink. dont do it

omg its ridiculous how fucked up america is, soldiers can die for their country, but can't have a pint of beer, fucking joke! why would people sue for some older teenagers having some drink at a party anyway? just keep people under control and quiet.. use that on your parents as well, make sure you get emotional so they feel your pain..

cops arent allowed to come inside the house unless they have probable cause, which is to see open alcohol thru the windows or door and they see a minor present... as long as you and your parents regulate noise, which for a 20-25 person party shouldnt be extremely difficult, youre gonna be fine. just emphasize to your parents that you told the people youre gonna invite that they have to sleep over if they drive

tons of mixed feelings here. most of the kids will sleep over. The others will get dropped off..no drivers. I live in the middle of no where also. Very few neighbors

this is why i can drink as much as i want, i just can't have parties with drinking at my house. There was one a year or two ago where some kids broke into their grandparents house, stole booze and drank there, goto word that cops were coming, drove out, and i think a few of them died in the accident, and they tried to sue the grandparents, who were living in florida. With a lot of parents, its not the actual drinking, its potentially losing the house. Also, unless you have a really big yard, noise complaints are a lot easier to get than u would think, which is usually how parties get busted. Regardless, good luck man, and have fun, and remember theres always canada ( i'm like 2 hours from montreal)

Sorry for my iPhone spelling fail. As long as you understand the consequences and take appropriate measures of prevention you'll be fine. As for parenting what do you think would be better: knowing your kid+ his friends will be drinking (as 90% of high school kids do) but not knowing where or how their getting home, or providing them with a safe environment where no one will be driving under the influence and as the OP said in a mildly low population area where theirs not many people?
