Progression in Wakeboarding

i dont know shit about wakeboarding but it doesnt seem like much progression can happen. I am probably dead wrong but i was watching off the wall today and it doesnt seem like much has changed since a couple of summers ago. o and what are some good wake board movies out there

I read in an interview with Shaun Murray that they have successfully started doing shit where the rider lets go of the tow rope so they can hit a rail or something and then the peeps in the boat throw it back out to them.

actually now that I think of it man they have progressed a shitload. They have done urban rails with baby pools and car tows which is insane. They also do insane gaps over land whether it be airs or rail gaps. Either way there is a lot of stuff they have done that most people wont know about if they arent really into the sport.

my opinion: I think that in the air, wakeboarding can progress style-wise, athletes making tricks their own and customizing them, just like skiers do. Wakeboarding can still progress A LOT in the kickers and rails area. Imagine a skier doign a rail but not having to worry about speed and momentum, it's crazy how much that cna make a difference (positively), wakeboarding has only tocuhed the surface of that aspect.

yea you are right because i just watched a comp recently that Parks Bonifay won and it seems like they can explore the depths of style much more than they have.

go to wakeboarding.com, that site has shitloads of info. Since they restructured the comp scene and incorporated better judging and more rails, riders have had to focus more on style and less on throwing a mobe 7. Now you see more grabbed off axis 5's and and huge blind 180s. They are also doing crazy stuff with gapping the land with metal rails and kickers. Some of the really good dudes are throwing 450 on, 360 switch ups, to 270 off on big trap rails and shit. Progression is definetely going towards style though, there isnt a whole lot you can do in the air beyond an inverted 900 or whirly 7 or moby dick to the flats.

um.. theres wake-skating: like a snowkate instead of a wakeboard, no bindings and popping kickflips etc..

theres wake-surfing: where the riders actually surfs the wake, no tow rope to hold on.....

and there all the crazy shit the do on rails etc... net progression step in wakeboarding is to start hitting ski jumping ramps .. trick is to land without breaking your balls.

oh yeah, you can tow a wakeboard on a jetski so you can pretty much bust huge air in the tightest of spots

theres plenty of progression inwakeboard you impotent fuck just wake up to yourself

i think as a wakeboarder starting to do tricks, it has to be pretty easy to progress, because water is a little more giving then pavement or snow

so i'll look for the pic but imagine this, pulled in on a drainage ditch then hit pvc slanted up to the top of an 18 wheeler where there is a slew or water, then a rail down to drainage ditch

Yea Wakeboarding has come so far in the last few years, its hard to see if u dont follow and wakeboard urself but the progression is there and its crazy to see the urban sstuff they are gettin into!

yeah its pretty tight. Cody Hall (i think that's his name) is doing some cool urban stuff. Setting up a little kiddie pool above a handrail and one at hte bottom and then having a tow in just like skiing. Wakeskating is cool and hard as hell but personally I don't like to watch it, I don't think it looks very smooth. I gotta give guys like Tim Kovackich, Horrell, Grubb, def. Byerly, Reed, and all the others props cause the shit they are doing is insane. Like huge varials off up rails, wake to wake kick flips, wake 360 shuvits. and wake surfing is fun shit, we take my friend's long board behind his natique all the time, pretty tough but fun.

you will never see progression in comps. watch the videos. theres so much on rails and there a shit load of new tricks. danny harf pulling a blind pete rose. thats the craziest shit ever. go out and buy REFLECTIONS rom sidwayz and backyard films if you want to see progression.

I love wakeboarding, though I havent been doing it for all that long. I think this sport has progressed majorly. Like to think when they started there were no tricks or anything, and now... there are no limits! yah, I read that interview too... that would be pretty awesome if they could let go, make a rail, and then keep going.

nothing really has changed in the last couple years except massive progression in slider riding and like most other sports more of an emphasis on style. the sliders that are being built now are insane; i've seen an 's' slider, roller coaster, pool/65ft flat/pool/20ft down set ups.

personally i think there's too much going on with sliders. there should be more done with whips into massive waves like Parks did either last year or the year before
