Armada ar7 and el rey

so i think ive narrowed down my next skis to either ar7s or el reys. i like charging the whole mountain and having stability, but also have days where i just screw around on rails and jumps all day. (very) occasionally i get a pow day and though theyre few, i'd like to have a ski that's fun and capable in the powder. i'd also like it to be light and be able to blast through crud. i'm on the east coast most the time btw

so taking all that into account, should i go for the el rey or the ar7? what are the pros and cons of each in relation to each other?

is the el rey better for all mtn and powder? is it significantly worse in the park and on rails? does the "price point" part show itself in a short lifespan, lost liveliness, or speed?

Both are great skis that are going to serve your purposes well. Both are advertised as being able to do both all mountain and park. The El Ray is going to be more all mountain oriented and be stiffer. The AR7 is a park ski that can do all mountain well. If you want more all mountain get the El Ray, if more park the AR7. Both will do great for you.

I would advise going with the El Rey. They are a little bit wider underfoot and more suited for all-mountain skiing than the AR7.

Plus the El Rey's just are super bombproof cap construction, and are just really sick skis in my opinion, plus you save mad bucks.

no in looks^, course in performance. but its like everyone said if your gonna do more everywere then buy the elreys. if your gonna focus on park go with AR7s. honestly wit the price of the el reys i dont think you can lose there.

Yes.

The ar7 is what people have said a step up from the el ray.

Its better in every way thats why its more expensive.

Also el reys are not stiffer than ar7s they are around the same stiffness.

damn that sort of sucks, i wish el rey was just the same type skis it is, but not price point. i'd rather pay more and have it be as good as the ar7 but charge all mtn a bit better

I have mine centermounted and they work fine on groomers and bumps but they suck in pow.

Seeing as you live in Massachusetts i dont think pow is your biggest concern so centermounting might be fine.

The el rey isn't really a price point ski, even though it is armada's cheapest ski, it is still more then alot of skis out there, and much better quality and durability then most skis. Also i own the el rey and i have ridden the Ar7 and the El rey is a good amount stiffer. I barely ever hit the park besides kickers, thats why i like the El Rey, also coming as a filmer, i find the El rey just a better ski to carve on especially while im doing follow cams. I have my El rey's mounted at Recomended which i can't quite remember what that is. And they ski fantastic as i have mentioned before.

I absolutely hated my El Rays. I used them only a few days before selling them. I almost forgot I had a pair. They're essentially just a cap construction carving ski with a turned up tail. They're definitely not too much fun in the park, and not snappy or playful outside.

shit... okay so then my next question is, does the ar7 rip the whole mountain well, and pow well enough? when you only buy skis once a decade you don't really want to be stuck with some beginner/intermediate/lacluster ski

word well i gotta say, some days i'll just hit rails so that's somewhat important. so as long as the ar7 can hold up all over the mountain (which seems likely) and can rip powder, well, enough.. i'm gonna go for it. seems like a really solid ski

but yeah i think ive decided to go with the ar7. seems like a good refined ski that kills it in the park but is beefy enough to charge hard everywhere.

im looking at the El Rey's b/c theyre more for all mountain than park. Can anyone tell me if they compare to the 4frnt MSP's? ive skid them and love the poppyness but wish they could carve groomers a bit better.

+k for help especially if youve actually tried the El Rey's!

those skis aren't even on the same level. The ar7 will do everything the el ray can do but 1000x better.

Comparing an El Rey to a Ar7 isn't really fair. The Ar7 is a higher end ski. It has more progressive flex and a more sophisticated construction in general...it is also more expensive. El Rey is Armada's version of a price point value ski (that is just what i is there is no arguement to be made it just is...).

Comparing the Ar7 ($620) to a MSP ($650) is a little more fair....and although I will always have a soft spot for the MSP, the Ar7 has the edge construction wise with the ck stringer....but alot of people love the MSP and their classic full wood core.
