So I was just curios what most of the skiing community tends to gravitate towards as far as a life philosophy, or spirituality.  So post what you believe in, religions are cool to post, just don't start a shitstorm.  If you don't believe in anything, say that. 
 
I find this shit interesting, what people believe in and how the choose to live their lives.

Personally,  I am a philosophical Taoist/Daoist.  In short that means that I believe in no gods, however I do believe in a power greater than myself, and that would be the natural flow of nature.

Your argument can be applied to theoretical physics and evolution, hardly a large portion of science.

Yes I can analyze problems myself. The simplest way to present the fact that religion and science are not the same is to post the merriam-webster dictionary definitions of the two, thereby profoundly proving that they are not the SAME by presenting a source that is world renowned. Similar, possibly, but to say they are the same is ignorant.

Hopefully my ingenuous thinking has enlightened you and made you realize you don't know everything, but by the way you act on this site I doubt that happens.

here's a pretty interesting example. A parasite made it so that they couldnt have male offspring but in only 10 generations a gene appeared that suppressed the parasite and the amount of male offspring shot up.

Your right posting definitions is definitely not the best way to prove a point but im lazy and a simple comparison seems to be the only way most people can see the difference in things.

I feel this debate has been settled. Concur?

either way noones beliefs really make any logical since.. i mean big bang? dumb.. creation? i mean you really cant find any proof for that either.. bottom line is i have decided to have hope for something more instead of just living my life for 80 years or whatever it is and thinking im just a small blip in history.. if im wrong then im in the exact same position as all atheists out there, but, if im right, im going to be the one living large for ever and you will be gettin it in the butt from satan.. for me its just a matter of having hope and there not being a definitive answer

I try to stay polite in these threads, but goddamn man. There are all kinds of evidence for the big bang. There's nothing wrong with having hope or believing in a higher power but please don't confuse spirituality and science. Learn opposing views and then you can say whatever you want. But if you're saying there's no evidence for the big bang you're fucking retarded. I apologize if you're below the age of 17.

Not to say they are the same thing.  Philosophy sometimes acts as an intermediary between the two. But the fact remains that science is based on empirical evidence, religion is based on faith, and philosophy a product of hippies.

are you serious? have you ever heard of conservation of matter and energy? The big bang theory pretty much says that all of the energy in the entire universe (a whole lot) and all of the matter came from a single, infinately small particle.. and how does this make since? and no im 19 so no reason to apologize haha

Give it a read. There is a LOT of evidence for the big bang. And saying it came from nothing might not be true. There are multiple theories concerning what brought about the big bang. One of these is spontaneous generation (coming from nothing essentially). But Another is that our universe is part of a much larger multiverse with each new universe budding off of another. And a third theory that deserves credit is that the single universe expands until it collapses on itself into a point of singularity then expands once again. Though, These can't be confused with the big bang theory itself. The big bang theory is part of each of these "creation" theories. That's where a lot of people get it wrong. The big bang isn't necessarily describing creation, only what happened from that moment onward. So there it is. Read about the evidence for yourself, draw your own conclusions. But if you still claim there is no evidence i'll be goddamn flabbergasted.

ok buddy, im not religious but i have some good friends who are so im going to be polite,

Science can be really difficult to understand, but it actually does make sense. The universe is still expanding and if you apply an equation to the amount of expansion and then reverse it (not sure if im making sense or not) but you can find the approximate age of the universe. An impact the big bang still is having (besides expanding the universe) is it left over a ton of static noise! Thats what the noise is when you turn on your tv.

Seriously though i barely understand most of the theories of these crazy people, but just because you dont understand them does not mean they are not real and do some research before you say something like that.

the bottom line is that there had to be a catalyst. Did, in some random point in time, the universe randomly decided to come into existence? are you saying that the universe began with zero matter and is continuously gaining matter? for the big bang theory to be correct, the law of conservation of mass and energy must be incorrect because that would mean that all of the matter and energy of the universe is continuously expanding. There has to be a start to all of this, and I dont know how the big bang theory explains this, and i feel that there has to be some other means to explain this, and ive chosen creationism
