This is more fun if you start with an actual word, because you get a better mix of letters to work with and can come up with more words. It's more challenging since there's more to think of.

For example, when in class the teacher is giving a lecture on _____, you take _____ and make words with it. Existentialism is a pretty good one you can get a load of words out of, and this is generally more interesting than listening to a 65 year old mumble about something he doesn't really care about, anyway. Don't do this if you have an interesting teacher or are learning about something cool.
