Dew tour breck :: women's pipe :: dumont

ok, just got a chance to see some video highlights from the Dew Tour Halfpipe at Breck.

I'm stoked to see Dumont back on top ... O.G., baby. The double flip 1260s are insane by him and Rolland.

I gotta tell the truth here: the women look terrible. shameful and pathetic. granted it looked like blizzard conditions out there, but the women are barely even getting out of the pipe. they look like they haven't progressed since 2003. we're still seeing in-the-pipe 540s and the lamest style ever with the wackest grabs. are there any female skiers out there who are going to give me something i can respect? come on, ladies, step it up!

ur karma is 666. I kinda feel you a little; it seems like women are not throwing down that hard. But there's not as much progression in the women side of the sport as there is in the mens. I think your POV is a little extreme, but I would like to see the ladies step it up a little.

Also, not to be sexist, but I don't feel that women deserve the same prize money as the guys, seeing as how the competition for the guys is much more fierce.

Yeah i was kind of amazed at how different the men and women are when it comes to pipe. I've been in a pipe like twice in my life, and i think i could compete and podium in womens pipe.

honestly, i could care less if the women throw tech tricks, but they need to go higher than 4 feet out.

i want to see at least head-high out with a solid, stylish grab ... tail or mute ... from the first hit to the last.

The Dew Tour is exactly what women needed. Now they have an event that will force the field to push each other's boundaries in order to achieve victory! Super stoked to see the ladies out there doing their thing, I've already seen them stepping it up first hand, it's only getting better! Big ups to Dania Assaly (Pipe) and Ash Battersby (Slope) for taking it home at the first stop!

Yea, I'm confused why women are getting the same in prize money at things like dew tour, x games, etc. The level of competition is borderline pathetic. It still feels as though the grand events should have women pipe/slope as an exhibition event or something, because it is way out of its league right now.

no sarah burk hurts, shes been going bigger with bigger tricks for like 5 years now. also i'd think some of it is the 22 foot pipe. women generally are lighter and are not usually as strong, so its harder for them to keep up momentum through the larger transition

this could be wrong, but women ski the 22 ft pipe also, i have a friend in my class who competed and she just didn't have to size to get out of the pipe that much. she still did a 9 though so i stand impressed

What men and women are physically capable of is completely different because of evolution. They should get paid the same because they are both throwing down for their different respects. To ask females to be super-human in order to be paid the same is unfair. In the big picture, skiing is a business and their career, meaning they're dependent on their income to sustain themselves. It's kind of hard for females to progress when they're forced to ski and have a full or part-time job because they can't afford to do otherwise.

i'm not buying this. females can go huge and do insane stuff in aerials. they go seriously fast in downhill ski racing, and they can shred mogul courses.

so why not halfpipe?

i'm not buying the argument that they don't weigh enough either. take Dumont from like 10 years ago. he was barely 5 feet tall, and i bet he weighed about 115 pounds. he could easily boost about 12 feet out back then.

i basically think women aren't holding themselves to a high enough standard. they're not pushing it hard enough. they can cushion any blow to their ego with what are already low expectations.

It's also hard to hold yourself to higher standards when you come on NS and all people say is how girls don't deserve the same amount of money etc and when girls like Grete get bashed for making a movie. We don't get movie parts these days, we don't get sponsors these days, we don't get cred these days. You're holding a double fucking standard to say we should push ourselves harder but offer nothing in return. There's no support.

I think what needs to happen to kick some real progression into the women side of things...is introduce a superwoman. Either genetically engineered or modified, to really step it up and do a spin with a grab on every hit. Fuckin pump in some major testosterone and let her buck out a new standard because it seems like right now, the progression of womens pipe is molassess status.

while this is true, i think the weather played a huge factor this weekend. i was watching mens snowboarding halfpipe finals and they could barely get 5 feet out. yes women are way behind, but this weekends weather made it look even worse

Screw the haters. This is completely true. Womens park skiing has barely progressed at all. It's sad and completely true. We want girls to step up the game. There are no name kids out there that can dominate even the best womens freeskiers. I don't want to hear excuses, look at womens racing, there are women racers that are even dominating men's times. That is proof that its not any more difficult for women to excel.
