Why does my computer keep electrocuting me?

i keep getting mild shocks from my computer when I touch it on the side. it's not consistent, but its repetitive.

its similar to a slightly stronger static shock. and it didn't start until recently. it's a dell that i've had to repair about 5 times in the 2 years i've owned it.

and just to add to that- I use chrome incognito. That's like google telling me its okay to watch porn. If the internets biggest company tells me it's okay then i won't feel bad!

Ive got a dell and it does it too when I touch the top a lot of the time. Shit sucks but I get used to it.

Make sure the case is earthed/grounded, so any leakage currents dont go through you, or, stop generating static.

take the battery out and try it just hooked up to the wall

unplug it and use just the battery...

yep, mine has it too, one corner where my wrist rests onto the casing is kinda worn off and the metal casing comes in direct contact with my skin...
due to magnetic induction from the magnets inside (how the f do they work ?!) static charges build up sometimes and give me a tiny shock :)
generally its only when my laptop isnt earthed (only the 4 rubber foots touch the table, nothing else) and i haven't touched it in a while (so static had a chance to build up...

its sufficient to touch the casing with a finger first to discharge it, otherwise if it discharges through your wrists it feels much harder :)

once its been discharged and i keep working on it it generally doesn't happen again ....

Its the hard drive. I recently read on a very informative website that if you run a large magnet over your hard drive it resets the elctro magnetic field which in turn reduce conductivity eliminating the "shocks" which generally are caused when too much friction builds up in the hard drive causing excessive electricity to flow through it. When touched to a finger it causes a shock.

yeah my dads work laptop had the same thing. it was a dell. i dont remember the model. but if you re magnetize the hard drive you should be golden.
