At approximately 3:35 pm MST professional skier Russ Henshaw sustained severe trauma to his slopestyle score when Dew Tour judges tackled and beat him down as he left the finish area at the bottom of the course. Alexi Godbout who is also an extraordinarily talented skier was nearly caught up in the action, however he was able to avoid the assailants but was powerless to do anything as he watched the brutal attack on Russ.
I'm stoked for Alexi. He crushed it with sick grabs and smooth style and deserved to be on the podium, but Russ threw down the slope run to end all slope runs and finished 12 points behind Alexi. I know all of you will say that this is a judged event and judging is subjective and if I don't like it I shouldn't watch etc. and so on. However, I've been around skiing and slope contests for a while now and I consider myself a pretty decent judge of slope runs. I can potentially see Russ not winning, but for him to not even be on the podium? That is good old fashioned robbery. It reminded me of when McRae didn't make slope finals at Aspen Open last year, to give an example for those of you who know what I'm talking about.
