Replying to Am I right to be upset about this?

So I bought a pair of 2011 Salomon Suspects from my local shop. I took a couple years off from skiing when I joined the military, so I was out of the loop when it came to ski tech. The guy who sold them to me is from my home town and I trusted that he would sell me a good pair of skis plus the price was right. Took them out for my first day up at Sugarbush skiing groomers since the park wasn't open yet. After two hours this happened: I'm no ski expert, but I doubt that the sidewall should get a gash like this on the first day. I'm going to try to take them back to the shop and see about getting them replaced. So am I wrong to complain about this? Anybody have a similar experience? How did it go for you?
