Simon Dumont crying?

watching dew tour. Simon fell on his first run on his 6th hit. ski basically fell off for no reason. He then proceeded to be a total bitch, moan to the camera, and walk out of the pipe pissed. I think he was crying too. Anybody else see this?

I saw his run, and yea, that sucks. But getting that heated infront of all those kids looking up to him is a douchy move. I don't like to hate on simon, I'm simply trying to point out that it was funny/not cool how heated he got.

So he shouldn't be able to be him self just cause theres a camera around? I would be crying if I took a run like that and then my binding just popped off. the stakes are high and that could be something huge for him if he won.

Come on man. He's an athlete. Remember X-Games last year? He was almost crying too. After seeing the competition in X-Games pipe last year (and being beaten by Tanner for those years prior), he has evidently stepped his game up. He's super competitive, and that's just the way he is - it's also the reason he is where he is today.

Oh great. Another dumont hate thread. Don't try to tell us that if you had cameras broadcasting your run to thousands of people and you had a shitty run, You would not get frustrated. He may have over did it by being whiney, But I don't blame him. He had a shitty run with a large crowd watching him. Like I said in the other thread in NSG, You don't think all the other competitors would get upset and frustrated after a shitty run?

I love that Andreas got brought into this. Simply because of this fact. Andreas is much different than Simon, that's been stated and yes, that is pretty obvious.

I'm gonna spread a little Simon hate, and these are my opinions. You have yours, I have mine.

Douche move? Yes.
Crazy competitive skier? Yes.
Does him being a crazy competitive skier make a difference on whether it was a douche move? Not really.

So I'm crazy competitive at golf. I've played competitively for years, I'm the dude trying to play mind games (along with everyone else) with my pairings in the tourney. Does this help me win? I don't know. Do I still do it? Yeah. Now there is a difference, in golf I'm not being judged by a panel on my style, amplitude and tricks. However, there is a fundamental similarity. If I'm in the last pairing, going into the last hole tied with my opponent and lip out a putt, I'm going to be very upset. Does this mean I melt down and bitch up a storm? No. I have in the past, and won't do it again. It doesn't change the fact that I still lipped out a putt and I lost.

I get it, he's very frustrated and there happens to be a camera in front of him. He pisses and moans because he's frustrated. Maybe that's what psychs him up for the next run. Here's my point. You're competitive, so be competitive...doesn't mean you have to be a douche too. Andreas is a perfect example of being competitive without being a douche.

if anything it makes me like simon even more because it shows how much he actually cares about his competitions and how seriously he takes them, and not to mention I'd be fucking pissed if i had an amazing run like that and my ski popped off for no reason on the easiest trick of my run, i'd probably be yelling too, and he wasn't yelling at the camera he was yelling at his score and a camera happened to be on him

1st of all, simon dumont is ridiculously childhish with his tempor tantrum as it reflects terribly on his attitude and his composure on and off the ski hill. Second, Jossi Wells should not have been allowed to pussyfoot his way down the pipe as it robbed some other competer, who would probably sent it 10x harder than jossi, of the spot. I frown upon Simon and Jossi for their pussyshit.

he did look like a douche but he is really competitive and he said that was the first dub 12 he landed all day and he had the win in his pocket but his binding took it away i would be just as pissed he figured he probly wouldnt land another one and he lost 10 places for a purely equipment related malfunction

Seriously dude? Jossi fucked his ankle up skate boarding and had to get surgery on it which explains why he wasn't on his A Game. Still impressive for him to compete on a not fully healed ankle. Dumont had a shitty run. An equipment malfunction is not what you want when you are in the middle of a big competition. You obviously don't know what the fuck you are talking about.

Your point makes sense, but your case is still really far off from Dumonts. yes you played golf very competitively but what your career and life on the line? no. This is Simon Dumonts life were talking about. This is how he earns all his money and lives his life. So yeah, I would be crying too if I crashed in a big tournament like this which is going to get me alot of money. If you realize that you might only have a few years left of skiing in comptetitions like this and you blew your shot at one of them because your bindings malfunctioned and you fell, fuck yeah your gonna be pissed and sad. Maybe Andreas won't cause he's just a different person and lives his life different (he has a jump at his house he can do doubles off?) so i'm pretty sure he doesn't have a ton to worry about if he gets hurt or doesn't win a tourney.

That was probably a terribly worded paragraph but I'm just trying to get my point across.

Your story makes no sense, you lip out a put because you yourself fucked up. Now imagine your going to sink a 1 footer for the win and your putter head just falls off (most likely impossible) and you miss your put. Your telling me you wouldn't flip the fuck out, or show some emotion?

no one held a gun to his head and said if you dont land then your dead. and him being competitave is no excuse. he is a role model to many kids and he showed them that it is ok to throw a fit after falling. i agree that i would also be pissed if it happened to me but he is a proffesional and he didnt act like one. that is all

this point was brought up by tanner in like a lion, should these professional athletes be held as rolemodels? they go out everyday and risk their lives for our entertainment and although much of what they do is broadcasted and reported on the news, who are we to judge, they are living their lives how they want to and i think we should respect that. as to simon "crying" i think he should be able to if he wants, even if we dont agree and it makes people think he is unprofessional or whatever so be it, he is just a guy trying to live his life and make some money, cut him some slack

you cant just say 'he's out doing what he wants, he has every right', because then he ceases to be an influential marketing tool, which is all that professional athletes are. they're entertainers who need to be aware of their public image. it is, after all, the public that pays their salaries.

being a professional athlete is more than just being good at your respective sport. you represent that sport in the public eye. someone complaining, ranting, and whining to the camera or reporters only does himself, the sport, and his sponsors a disservice.

needless to say, i am not impressed.

Yes Dumont is a good skier, no one is arguing that. The reason I don't like him much is because of his attitude and the way he acts. I love to ski, as I'm sure almost everyone on this site does. The reason I ski is because I think it is the best thing in the world, and it's a lot of fun. But watching Simon, it doesn't look like he's having fun skiing or enjoying it, he's just there to compete and win. Sure, it's alright to be upset, but instead of bitching about it, he should put things in perspective and realize he's one of the luckiest people in the world.

Passionate about competing and winning. He's a professional skier, with the emphasis on professional in my mind. That's why he's a good poster boy for companies, because he puts in tons of effort towards skiing, training, working out, etc. But I don't think that's representative of skiing, at least for me. I have a ton of respect for him, but I just can't relate to him I guess.

I was around 7 years old.

And i think he is passionate about skiing too not only competing.

This thread is full of people who lacks the ability to look beyond their own little perspective. Fact is, not everyone handles things the same way you do. Why would you compare Simon to Andreas? They are two very different individuals, with a very different background, and a very different approach to things. Why is the one approach better than the other?

With regards to the public icon/role model issue, I don't see the big deal? Simon's identity and image as a skier is that of a very focused, competitive person with a passion that sometimes overflows into anger/disappointment. His behaviour after his first run falls quite nicely into that, and to be honest I think the public will love him more for it. It seems that, especially in America, the passion and determination that Simon exudes, including temper tantrums, is perceived as someone who is willing to go all the way to secure the win. If that is not an American value, then I don't know what is.

Stop thinking that in order to be a role model or a representative of a company, everything has to be so clean cut about you. It doesn't. Simon showed his competitive nature, and at the end of the day he was basically being honest. The public and his sponsors recognise that, and will, as I said, love him that much more for it. I don't get some people on here's desire to have everything aligned with their beliefs and values, wouldn't it be boring if everyone acted the way you wanted them to? You would certainly loose a valuable source of thread material, and heaven forbid that!

Dumb people in reality shows cry because their makeup fucked up and we don't give two shits about it. He cried because after giving it his all, he wasn't able to finish. He did it out of dedication for the sport, and that sounds fine to me. Hell, Tiger Woods yells "FUCK!!" on a golf course if he makes a bad shot, why can't he shed some tears?

you have no idea how hard he works to get those runs down, if you work that hard to accomplish something and in the end fail in what you worked so hard for, crying and bitching about it is a normal reaction. any pro that would have that happen to them and would stand up and laugh it off is hiding his true feelings...

His ski would have stayed on if he would have grabbed it. But I guess it stayed on with his right 9, dub 9 and his switch 7 so. Maybe not. When are judges going start caring about grabbing in pipe skiing? For years that has been the most important thing but now judges and most other people are blinded by dubs.

I totally understand him being pissed about it, I know I would. But after the comp was over and he was being interviewed, he was asked about it and he said he thought about quitting after that first run. As we know he came back and won it. But come, on he obviously had a good chance of taking first, why would he think about quitting?

"i was over it, didnt even want to take a second run, but my agent talked me into it," his exact words. notice none of the competitors congratulate or even hang out with him, hes a emotional trainwreck inside and outside of the ski world, hence the lohan comment. he has the mentality of a racer, not a freestyle skier.

Like he said in his interview at the endnof the comp. it was probably the best run of his career and he screwed it up on last AND easiest trick out of his whole run. Nobody could shrug that off, especially since he pretty much landed it but I guess he stomped it too hard. Everyone knows that he's such an intense competitor I don't think anybody should be surprised by how he reacted. Not to mention he stomped an amazing run that got him first right after.
