First comes normal people celebrating, then comes some overly political fag to say "now all we need is gay marriage", and then the religious people go RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE all the way into a shitstorm.
And to the "inb4 shitstorm" people, the shitstorm started when the whole issue was first brought up. Or at least it did for the people that I knew who didn't want it to happen.
I really don't see why they didn't want them in the first place. " Oh i am sorry you can ot go risk your life in order to secure americas freedom because you enjoy the company of men"
honestly, if soldiers can handle the intense stress and work of training for and going to war, i really don't see how they wouldn't be able to handle gay people working with them
yeah, but it's a different psychological aspect in a way. When you prepare for war you get your mind ready for misery. When you think about gay people you may prepare for a an experience you might not used to. Then again war and encountering gay may both be experiences in which someone has little experience. On the other hand, most American soldiers probably have had experience with gay people back at home. I guess it all depends on the soldier's personal opinion.
Because there aren't a shit ton of soldiers over there right now or were in the past, that know of gay people they are serving with and have no problem with them.
Obviously there is a complete shield and nobody know any gay people, and when dadt get's repealed the fragile base of the world as we know it will shatter into millions of pieces. But yes there are plenty of crazy homophobic people. That's their own problem though.
I'm not your 'brah', fucker. And how would making a logical argument be out of my element? Go back to your parent's house and stay in your sheltered little white person world. I don't even give a fuck if you're in the army. I can only hope people like you get shot down in the line of duty.
Because you made a thread about something you think was an earth shattering event when in all reality you don't have to deal with any of the "profound" repercussions civilians think this has in all branches of the military.
This DADT issue is the most laughed at issue on base, things hardly changed when it was repealed, then reinstated, then repealed again. It was a completely normal day of work, planes still in the air and believe it or not, the flag even got hoisted at 0530.
It's not like most peoples homosexuality was a secret in the first place, we work beside people from all different backgrounds everyday and homosexuality was just another normal thing to deal with.
I made that post to make a point that a lot of people are sick of hearing about it, knowing full well that a multitude of people would be up in arms about it when in all reality, they don't deal with the issue on a day to day basis.
So go ahead and call me sheltered, call me white? I don't even know where that comment came from, that was almost as out of line as wishing death upon a military member. That just floors me that you would show such disrespect, but I guess you have the right exercise free speech. I'm not even going to go into a tangent about respecting the military members who protect your rights as a citizen of the US because that's an even morn worn out topic than DADT.
Well I'm sure it does to you. You're probably of the, "It affects unit cohesiveness," or some shit school of thought. Well now, if you'll refer to the several inch thick report by the Joint Chiefs of Staff. You'll find that of the large number of deployed troops surveyed, the VAST majority would have no problem serving with open homosexuals.
But I suppose I can't expect someone who uses the word, "gay," so casually on their profile to be accepting or anything less than an ignorant gaybasher.
Did you not read my post stating that it really didn't affect most military members? If the troops have no qualms with serving next to homosexuals, then why do people feel the need make threads claiming it to be a massive shitstorm?
And I'm so sorry if my profile offends you, I had no idea that using the word gay was so taboo in this day and age.
You are fucking ignorant. IT HASN'T BEEN REPEALED. And what you're doing is hoping for instant and recognizable impact on your life, one that is completely useless, i might add, even though you have no emotional or physical stake in this. How do I not deal with this issue on a daily basis? You are completely fucking ignorant of how other people feel about this, and yes, in fact, gay people DO feel something for this issue despite many of us not being in the military (because usually we're successful, literate and have REAL JOBS you fucking talentless welfare queen). You are a sheltered prick - of course you'd never be able to imagine what others may feel when told they don't have the RIGHT to serve their country. I don't give respect just becuase you're in uniform. Frankly, that starts you out on a lower level than the rest of these people simply because you think you have credibility. Fight in a real goddamn war and show me you're actually worth listening to and I'll give you some respect. Otherwise, you're just a fucking tax on my life.
these people? all i ask is that you dont stoop to the level of mindless stereotyping. im a christian, and im in full agreement with you on this issue, so at least try not to consider all christians as the scum of the earth.
"WASHINGTON - Pentagon officials conceded yesterday that they have uncovered a "disturbing" level of gay harassment in the U.S. military and ordered a new effort to implement and enforce the controversial policy governing treatment of homosexuals.
Officials released a Pentagon inspector general's survey of 72,000 troops that found 37 percent have seen or been targets of harassment directed at gay service members.
In addition, more than 80 percent of those filling out the questionnaire reported hearing offensive speech, derogatory names or jokes at least once over the past year, and 85 percent said they believe anti-gay comments are tolerated at their installations or aboard their ships."
