Will NS delete negative threads about its magazine?
I thought this might be an interesting conflicting of interest. Just wondering. And why shouldn't NS have its digital mag when it can make links to merchandise that they get advertising dollars for. I know why, conflict of interest again. It is tough for me to read a review of something assuming it is an honest opinion (read: unbiased?) when there is a link to it right there. I know every magazine does this, but it is interesting to say the least. I raise my brow a little, but ultimately it is a great move by Schmuck and Co. I remember the requests for donor dollars, and it is nice that NS is a legitimate business now. Way to go guys.
We are fully open to hear what you guys have to say about this project. We have put time and effort into bringing something to light we think really highlights the quality content we can bring to the table over top of our day to day news and events coverage, which will not suffer at all, there are just pieces that need more breathing room.
As for your concerns about the products section, I'll say that every single piece in there is used by the people who reviewed them. There is a reason we have never done a gear guide, and that is we feel that writing about a product you actually ride day to day means a lot more than just a list of products. The link to the products page is simply to provide more info, as you'll notice we don't list any specs for anything, just what we thought of things.

ABSOFUCKINGLOUTELY NOT!
Honestly we want feedback. The opinion of the Newschoolers community is the backbone of everything that this place is built on. In my mind, the entire problem with traditional magazines is that they don't have anyone to call them out for what they say.
So please - if you have something negative to say about what we've done Bust it the fuck out in this thread. We CRAVE hearing it.
Why? Because frankly the beauty of this site is that we can do something about it. Nothing that Newschoolers ever does is based solely on our opinions - it always has what you guys think is rad built into it. If we screw that up, then you tell us and we do our best to fix it.
In terms of your comments about the merchandise... thats actually really funny and super close to my heart.
First off... I used to sell advertising for newschoolers. So I was always conscious (and still theoritically am)of who was reading my reviews.
However... when it came to the reviews published in Issue 1, Schmuck was harassing us at a time where I was WAY too busy to answer. So what happened? To shut him up, I snapped out a few reviews of my current favorite gear and hoped he'd go away.
Fast forward a few months, and I'm reading these things....
I've never been more truthful in gear reviews as I have with the products that I reviewed there. Sure, there's many more things that I like in this sport, but those reviews are 100% accurate and straight from the heart.
Even if you don't like the reviews, nor do you believe in the reviews... frankly thats the best part about this website... we encourage you to get into the forums and call us fucking morons for our opinions.
Gone are the days of top-down media, where they tell you what you think and thats it.... here at Newschoolers we state it and CRAVE you arguing it. How the hell else are you going to get to a proper opinion?
I don't like this Bishop character. He's way too honest, truthful and open to criticism, must be a troll or an AI created by Harvey in his hayday.
Keep on trucking. I personally had some issues with the collision of the font and some of the text layouts, but content-wise it was abundantly awesome.
I really enjoyed it, read every word cover to cover. and i love that its digital, and you guys can throw video clips in there. not gonna get that in a paper magazine.
1. fix the typography.
2. a more creative layout for images
3. organize the text boxes better so they flow better.
4. big quotes need to be placed better when over images.
other than that, at a quick glance, awesome job doug and everyone involved! if you need any layout help or image correction, shoot me a PM.
