Tecnical difficulties

Ok so I recently purchased pinnacle studios 14 hd, and I uploaded some shots today (first time ive done it) off of my t2i all shot in 1080 full hd, I dragged them to the timeline on pinnacle, but wen I go to playback it skips and almost freezes and doesnt play, sometimes the sound will play but even the sound is choppy...does anyone know wats going on? i have windows 7 btw, ....i thought maybe it was because my shots were in 1080 hd, but it says "pinnacle studio 14 HD" ..soo shouldnt it be able to handle hd? maybe its my computer?

damn, i think ive found the reason, i have an inspiron zino hd , with windows 7 (64-bit) and i was reading a review and a guy said " graphics chip chokes on HD "

It's the codec, even raw h264 files from 7d/t2i wont play on high end macs. Download mpegstream clip www.squared5.com and encode your raw files, it will take some time but be so worth it.

all i tried was converting the clips to avi, it runs way smoother but still nowhere close to watchable...anything else i could do?...im gunna mess around with frames/second

The best you can do is just to encode them to another type. try out wmv.
and maybe when your previewing, mute the sound.

are you running a laptop? this could be your main reason though.

I can edit all my stuff perfectly without encoding on adobe premiere pro. (to whomever said it cant be done) then again im not using a mac.

nope, i have windows 7 on an inspiron zino hd, and like i said i looked up reviews a nd a bunch of ppl said the media chip or watever "struggles with hd"

ohhh yeah, no doubt.
thats definitely your problem.
the best you can do is just try and convert your files, i'd think wmv would be the best.

what if you make the timline SD, do all your editing, and then change it back to HD, or copy the timeline and make a new one in HD, and paste it in.
I've heard of some people doing this, but I have no first hand experience with pinaccle.

thanx a lot man, im gunna try wmv and see how that works out, im also gunna mess around with the frames/second to see if anything works....i know u said ur not familiar with pinnacle, but how would i switch it to sd? would i have to convert all of the clips?

no you can convert them to wmv and keep their hd resolution.
you just need to make a timeline with a lower resolution, I cant think of the exact resolution off the top of my head as I don't use it to often, but im sure there are presets. but its something like 960x###

i play raw h264 all the time on my mac, no problems there. assuming by raw you mean moving the clip straight from camera to computer, and from computer into final cut, no streamclip involved.

Maybe try another program?
I dont wanna rain on your parade and say your computer can't edit.
try out Sony vegas, or Adobe premiere

it prolly is my computer :(.....I used to have adobe premiere elements, but that was before i had a t2i anyways, and i just bought pinnacle, i wouldve bought vegas, but too expensive

hard drives dont add ram, ram adds ram.
you can buy faster hard drives though.
if your running a 5400rpm you can get a 7200rpm, or even a new SSD drive, but their quite expensive for a decent sized one.

You need to do some research and maybe in a couple years you can upgrade your computer. You're probably better off asking mom and dad for a new macbook pro.
