m a gr.12 student so as fuckin if i'm gonna come up with another 115 bones after I already paid a shit ton for the skis, i'm unemployed.

I made this thread to see if anynoe knew a way around this or how to get one of those good will discounts so f#$% off

Although I did talk to one local UPS shop which gave me the idea to ask for the discount, she said she would have given it if it were in her power, but I would have to call that god dahm 1 800 number and get that fat office chick with no life but likes to have control and talk for like 5 minutes for no reason and just end up turning me down, you know the one right? yeahhh....

the shipping company cannot control custom taxes. its up the the custom boarder guy/girl. should of thought about that before you bought skis internationally. suck it up and stop your bitching.

can you not get the simple point that when you buy from a retailer, they ship it out as a company. it is a brand new item thus paying custom taxes. when you buy privately, the person ships it out as a gift and the item most likely isnt brand new thus not paying customs.

now is that a hard concept to grasp? i dont think so.

you are in grade 12, you should know this.

whatever. you shouldnt of paid any customs taxes then. but it can happen. thats why you tell the shipper to ship by usps or cps which means cheaper shipping and not as likley to pay customs.

I didn't expect to pay any of that that's why I made this thread, I was so shocked, especially 114.95!! like holy shit nuggets i'm broke as it is...

Maybe he didn't send them as "a gift" I don't know. The person online said that he credited them at $375 US (which is what I paid) and that this fee was customs, brokerage, and GST and PST on that $375...

Ha! I registered JUST to help you out with this! I got dinged with it for car parts once...

It's DEFINITELY just UPS. What they all do is charge you duty and taxes (Ever look at the Customs list? They charge duty on X-country skis, but not downhill skis!) whoever you ship with, but they charge you a fee for going through the motions for you. This is a 'brokerage fee'.

UPS fees for this are highway robbery! And they ONLY do this coming into Canada, so they KNOW this. What you need to do is get someone from their office back on the phone. Tell them your situation, but stress that you KNOW that all the other companies charge way less, and DEMAND they give you about half of your money back, especially when taxes/duty on your item wasn't very much. They've done this before when confronted. Also say that you will NEVER use UPS again, and will tell your friends about it.

As was just said, I now use USPS whenever I can. FedEx if I need something by air. If UPS is my only option, tell the seller to ask for their 'World Ease' service. That way it's a $35 flat-rate fee so you know what you're in for.

Yeah i'm NEVER using UPS again, she told me on the phone that DHL, USPS, and CanadaPost don't charge as much because (she said this about canada post and usps) have connections with the goverment and basically run the border so they get much better brokerage costs but I would still be paying taxes (I knew that I just didn't expect a f#$@%ng $115 bill to arrive with my skis... for you^^^)

If your in 12th grade your not "unemployed" you just don't have a job.
And maybe you should have though about the fact that you don't have a job and you don't have much money, before you go and buy a pair of 350 dollar skis internationally instead of buying a cheap pair on hear or another cheap pair.
you should look into what your going to pay before you buy something so that your not bitching about it after the fact.

USED SKIS

USPS will insure them for up to $100 for free.  Insurance costs money above that.  But you can only claim as much as they are valued at.


I buy/sell skis between Canada and the US all the time, and I always use USPS.  The only times i've had to pay duty is when they are new from a retailer.

Yeah thanks, as if I hadn't already thought about that. you ARE funny.

I had all my finances sorted out, but like i've said numerous times now, I did NOT expect another $115 bill. I figured it would be somewhere around 30-50 considering I paid 20 on about $200 worth of stuff from an online store selling brand new goods.

The chick on the old 1800 number told me rhudson also did NOT list them as a gift which would have saved me $40...

and I got a pair of goggles about a week ago shipped USPS and didn't pay a dime of brokerage or tax on them, just showed up in my mailbox, so once again f**k you UPS : )

like I said above I agree because I ordered a pair of goggs of SunVillains and I didn't pay a dime on them because they went through USPS

Here's an idea. This thread could be used to warn other Canadians like me that just started buying shit from the US that's not directly through a retailer, such as used stuff on a forum (DUH) to request that USPS be used as oppose to UPS. Am I right? I def woulda have loved to have this brought to my attention before spending $50 that could have been used to get my family better xmas present tbh
