Can you ski with mono?

I'm going to get checked for mono tomorrow and im just wondering if anyone knows if u can ski while you have it. just curious cuz that would suck if im screwed out of a few months of skiing.

when i had mono, i could barely walk around for more then a few minutes, let alone ski.

Why I had mono I had zero energy.If you can find enough then yeah go ski. I'm no doctor or anything though ^ that guy said you speen can break that sounds serious but id say go for it.

i did it for a couple weeks. i wouldnt recommend it, but if you take it easy you should be fine. i was skiing before my doctor told me i could start jogging again, and if i could go back i think i'd wait the extra time just to be safe. rest up and try to get over it

I skied almost an entire season with a broken arm, I'm sure it was not reccomended but I did any way.

no, i wouldnt ski at all. your spleen is enlarged when you have mono. Your spleen filters toxins out of your blood. You can live without a spleen, but your body wont recycle the iron in your body nor filter your blood. I went to high school, with a two girls who lost their sister when she went waterskiing with mono. Is your life really worth not missing a couple of months of skiing? Take it from a guy who has had mono 3 times. I got a pretty good understanding on this topic.

depends on how bad it hits you. sometimes you'll just be fatigued but still able to function, other times you won't be able to move

wow i kinda thought the first guy to say your spleen can rupture and you will die was joking, but if its true (which it seems that it is from the other people saying it) i probably wouldn't take that chance, and just rest up until you dont have any risk, plus you probably wont have the energy too

You shouldn't, you can rupture your spleen very easily if you fall or over exert. But you'll probably be too tired to ski anyway.

Don't do it! When I was a senior in high school one of my friends had mono and still played in his basketball game, and ended up falling down in the game, rupturing his spleen and dying before they could get him to the hospital. :'(

I skied with mono, and I was fine. But I didnt fall hard...

Dont go big anytime soon if you had mono... that's all I can say.

I didn't know that mono effected the spleen. Weird.
It reminds me of pay it forward where the kid get's stabbed in the spleen and dies almost instantly, didn't make sense at the time.

Mono lowers the platelet levels in your blood. Platelets help your blood to congeal when you get injured.

Mono also enlargens your spleen.

Put the two of them together and you can see that it's not a great idea to do any activity that has a higher than normal chance of falling or tripping.

Besides, you're probably not going to want to leave bed anyway haha it's a pretty shitty thing to get

i have mono and i've skied 2 times with it already. I fell hitting a rail and my stomach hurt a little, but I also haven't been getting the symptoms so bad. Go ski, and take it easy. If you are considering skiing, you obviously do not have the crushingly tired mono.
