You think opium will ever gain acceptance the way marijuana has?

i mean opiates are addictive, but so are cigarettes. I think natural products from the opium poppy should be allowed to be used recreationally. If there was a consistent supply as with cigarettes, and a reasonable price,  then people could enjoy smoking natural opium without worrying about repercussions. In pretty much every country throughout the world you can get codeine over the counter in a pharmacy except the united states. Both marijuana and opium have been smoked as far back as history has been recorded, so i dont know why only one of them is now gaining acceptance. As far as synthetic drugs like heroin and oxycontin, fuck them. Im talking about natural opiates the same that have been used for thousands of years by many civilizations.

what do you guys think

no, opiates are addictive in a completely different way than cigarettes. plus they're super dangerous because the regular dose to overdose ratio is so close.

Fuck these troll threads. This isn't even trolling, it's just post a ridiculous thread every 5 seconds. Opium is highly addictive, marijuana isn't. Opium can kill you, merijuana can't. Most people want to get a little bit high, they don't want to get completely faded 24/7

the only reason marijuana and opium wont be legalized or accepted is because it impairs you and whoever you smoke around. Smoking cigarettes will affect a bystander but it will not impair there senses.

Possibly. But it seems highly unlikely. Although if i recally correctly, pretty much all drugs are legal in Portugal and some other places right now. Perhaps if people grow up and realize people should be allowed to do whatever they want with their own bodies it'll happen... not going to happen in the US anytime soon though.

you are incorrect. If your tolerance for opiates goes up, the LD50 will also go up,

IE, if your tolerance to opiates doubles, it will take twice as much to be lethal.

with benzodiazepines, your tolerance will go up but the lethal amount will stay put thats why benzos are so dangerous

You've got them mixed up.

Tolerance builds to the pleasurable effects of opiods very quickly while tolerance to the respiratory depression (the cause of death in overdose) hits a ceiling. Opiods have the highest share of accidental overdoses from a single drug.

Benzodiazepines are also very addictive and build tolerance quickly but they're very rarely fatal when taken alone.

It's already more accepted than weed. Opiates are more widely used and prescribed than any other drug besides aspirin, ibuprofen, and acetaminophen.

Because fucking addicts lay down all day and dont stop smoking that shit. If your not stupid it can be done in moderation easily, but it CAN kill you, much unlike weed.

Opiates will never be legal because they WILL be made by people into heroin and other strong synthetics, and they won't be legal in the United States simply because of the vast amount of them grown in the Middle East.

ther more you build a tolerance to opiates, the more it will take to kill you.

I have a friend who in 5 minutes will do enough oc that would cause fatal resperatory depression in 10 people who had never taken opiates before.

Some people have a 5 gram of heroin habit per day.  5 grams of H is enough to kill about 20 people who had no tolerance.

My point is, you are very wrong.   If there was a ceiling it would have to be the same for everybody. The ceiling ( when you od and die) depends on how high your tolerance is.

some alcoholics can survive over a half gallon of vodka.

half of a liter of alcohol is enough to kill some people.

opiates are the same way man. do you research. Look up the LD50 against tolerance chart for opiates. As tolerance moves up, the "ceiling" you are describing moves up as well. Wether or not they are directly proportional i dont know. But there is no   "lethal dose" of opiates that is the same for everybody.

that is the most retarded statedment ive heard for a while. You really need to educate yourself before you post shit your not sure of. Im in pharmacy school, and alot of the teachers are pretty libertarian. They think if prescription drugs were simply legalized, dumb people would overdose, and the rest of the smart people who survived would have all the drugs they wanted for really cheap. addicts would not need to mug people to get enough money to buy heroin, which is a terrible drug in the first place.

Things like vicoden are addictive, but aside from being addictive they are truly harmless. The tylenol in them is more unhealthy for your liver than the hydrocodone in them. So if they were always readlily available, people could live healthy lives pain free instead of taking stupid shit like advil and tylenol which destroy your liver and provide no relief whatsoever.
