I'm writing an article on powder skiing for my English class and could use some help by you providing your description of shredding some pow. Some comparison's would be great, +K to those most helpful
words cant describe slashing the knee deep sugary softness known as powder. The untracked fields of pure white, just waiting for some slashes, or figure eight turns. Popping out of the depths of its greatness for a breath of fresh air in between turns. Dropping fifty feet gracefully into the safety of the purest of pows will only result in the loudest yelp of your life, landed or not. In the event of a fall, the usual ragdoll can be expected; from head to toe and back to head again, a fall of this nature must be taken with a smile. In the deepest of the frozen goodness, the turns produce a wave of snow that engulfs the skier/boarder. This action is referred to as the head shot and is the holy grail of pow skiing. When the snow depth is at epic proportions, repetitive headshots will give the effect of suffocation, and with the physical demands of shredding this kind of condition, the oxygen needs to be flowing. A swimming snorkel may be used for this condition.
Powder skiing provides you with the feeling of weightlessness and the ability to jump of nearly anything and be ok. It makes skiing easier, and significantly more fun.
It's like you just took the biggest poop of your life, then stand up to admire it, and you get millions of tiny ice crystals in your face, but it feels like an angel farting baby-powder at you.
The weightless feeling of gliding across the earth's surface is comparable to nothing the human body has ever achieved. There is no comparison the gentle waves in the powder that you feel as you rise and fall, rise and fall in the powder.
like nothing else. it is exhilaration, and happiness, and everything good about life all mixed into a few moments. it is nearly impossible to describe. like that feeling in your chest when everything is right with the world. that huge endorphin rush that blots out everything but the next trees, the next cliff...
Correction, there's no room for slow friends that hold you up on powder days. However, there is nothing better than sharing a powder day with a bunch of buddies who can rip right alongside you.
