also, i need a good simpsons episode to watch. preferably from season 3 to 10ish. i've seen a lot of the good ones recently (cape feare, lisa needs braces (dental plan), the one with hank scorpio, the one where mr. burns tries to be a friendly millionare... etc. (all the ones everyone likes...) so something that isn't that would be cool.

the big bang thread discussion about the simpsons got me thinking, and set off a chain reaction that led to me staying up til 4 am watching the early season episodes. (where you notice fun things, like smithers originally being black, carl being white, and the original version of flanders, who was also black.)

But what I realized was that the reason the show isn't as good is because literally every single avenue has been explored. Every character has had their story explained, some more than once. The plant, the school, city hall, have all been opened, shut down, bought out, sold back, etc.

They lack simple plots like "what if homer bought a snowplow? Then barney did too?"

I think the best thing they could do is take a year or two off. Rethink things. Then simplify it all, and go back at it.

Whaaaaaat? have you been watching the last 2 seasons. The show has become brilliant again! you can see Matt Groening took some inspiration from Seth Mcfarlane.
the show still keeps its platform of knowing a little more about the characters every episode, but they are getting very political and the jokes are much more varied.

I'll be honest, I haven't been able to watch as much lately as I've wanted to. I have seen one or two from this season and I did think it was an improvement.

I think the show became far too obvious in terms of it's political satire and parody for awhile though. Leave that stuff to family guy.

I agree. It's charm used to be in its nuance, but now all the jokes are brought to the front-row, with an awkward three-second pause as they wait for your laughter. They initially achieved the impossible by executing non-sequiturs gracefully and intelligently; now they come off as desperate and apathetic, much like Family Guy. The show used to progress without these awkward pauses because it didn't need to milk every single precious joke. Instead everything progressed nonchalantly, giving a surreal feeling that hilariously depicted the absurdity of the modern american caricature as if everything were commonplace.

Also,

- Quit cogitating Steinmetz and use an open faced club. The sand wedge.
- Mmmm, open faced club sandwich.

- Is there anything fluffier than a cloud?
- If there is, I don't want to know about it.

It really is the only show that I absolutely love. If they put it on netflix I honestly would not move from the TV for upwards of 100 hours.

Family guy I can quote the funnier moments but the simpsons simply have way too many for me to remember
