I've had both, the first gen iphone and currently I have the captivate. Both are extremely capable phones and really what it comes down to in the end is preference. They both have their pros and cons and i think the biggest one that got me about the captivate is how short the battery life is if you have a lot of applications that constantly refresh on the home screens. They are both fairly even competitors, the iphone has better battery life and a front facing camera, but with the captivate you get more personalization options. For the android market you dont have to be linked to an account other then Gmail to purchase free applications unlike the iphone where you need to be signed into the itunes store. The feature that stands out amongst the two is the captivates unique ability to multitask, it really surpases that of the iphone but other then that then its your choice. They both shoot quality video, have good call quality, good internet browsers, tons of applications, everything that a top of the line smartphone should offer. Browse youtube for comparisons and google but it should really be what you like. go to the store and play with them to figure out what you want.

i have an iphone 4 and I love it, but one of my friends has a captivate, and I think he is happy with it. I had heard about at&t like blocking android market place and customization on one android phone, but i guess it must be a different one, or they aren't doing it anymore. I also have a few friends with droids on verizon, and the thing they don't like is the music player, and they all still own ipods because of this. they both have a lot of the same features, but ones of my friends with a verizon droid (i think an x, but possibly a two, ik it is new ish i just haven't used it) says that he thinks the iphone has better graphics (which it does, due to hardware) and he thinks it is faster (even though they have the same processor). Sorry i don't know a whole lot about the captivate, but hopefully something in here will be helpful to u
