before you guys butcher me i've looked through about 30 threads on these skis. but one question goes unanswered. I was interested in the line elizabeths. they seem like they would be sick. and there is still one place with some for sale. for $345 shipped. but here's my concern, are they going to be too soft and squirly? i'm 5'2" and 110 pounds but i'm an agressive skiier and like to go fast. so far i haven't been able to find a good balance in a ski that is stiff enough to handle straight-lining but soft enough to play around on. i'm riding atomic punx in a 164 and on3p caylors in a 171. both skis are stiffer than i would like but i'm doing alright on the caylors. but i can't butter the punx to save my life. lol. they aren't all that playful for me. my fujatives in a 169 were more playful (soft in the tip, stiffer in the tail. good for jibs and rails but really chattery at speed). what do you guys think?
I am 5-10 and 165 pounds. I use my Elizabeths for everything: teaching, park, crud, ice, slush, etc. They are insanely playful, and carve better than most skis (deep sidecut). I do not find them to be squirrely, and at your weight, they will probably be more than stable.
BUT: at your height and weight, I don't think they will be as playful as you would like. I would suggest looking at a 160ish Line Anthem or Afterbang. You already have Caylors, so just buy something to compliment them.
I'm 5'10" 180 lbs and I've never lost an edge on them. They do tend to chatter at speed but I mean, they're soft as hell, have deep sidecut and very little camber. Trust me, once you carve these things, you won't want to straight line anything. It's just too much fun to throw a really quick radius carve and ride it out. The only thing is, at you're height and weight, I don't think they're going to be nearly as playful as you'd like. You may even find yourself fighting them more often than riding them because even if you've ridden fat skis before, Lizzies are a very unique ski and can be very temperamental and hard to control at times.
ive been using the same set of lizzies for probably two years, and they are brilliant, so playful, and so responsive on carve, as mentioned, they do clatter at speed, but they remain pretty stable, and its a small price to pay for so much buttery fun... only comment is they may be a bit big since you already have caylors. maybe try blends or anthems?
how old are you? im assuming you'll grow a little bit in the next year or so. like others said, they may not be as playful as you like at your size. if you grow a few inches and gain about 20-30 lbs, theyll be great. im 5'10 and 160 and theyre still fine.
i have a racing background and have had pairs of lizzies for the past 4 years. once you ski this ski, youll give up the straight lining for other fun little ollies, butters, carves. if you cant to straight line or ski crud, seems like your caylors will do a much better job.
don't tell people where to get them cheap....im snatchin up as many pairs as i can, so shhhhhh!
I'm 6'3" and use them for park skiing, since that is what they are for, and i fucking love them. I would never choose another ski to mess around in the park or on sidebooters and groomers with other than it. Im thinking that you want to use them to shred pow and things more than what they are really made for, 172 bacons would be better i think but they are a tad stiffer, but lizzys are really soft, especially 2010 models
i'm 18 and i think i'm just about done growing. =( but i'm a super agressive skiier and have been riding ep's and chetlers for the past two seasons (183 and 185). i struggled with em, but i can ride my caylors pretty well because of that. i'm thinking i'll snatch these up tho. they will probably be more playful than my punx and caylors are.
these are basically going to be my screw around ski. i have punx for park, and caylors for pow, so these are going to be my do everything ski. or i was hoping they could be anyways. my caylors beat the s**t out of me when it gets tracked out and my punx just flat out dive in anything even remotely soft. so i'm trying to find a balance of something that can chop through crud, carve well on the groomers, and even slay a little pow here and there. but not much. when the pow comes down i break out my caylors. but once it gets tracked out i need something that isn't going to beat me up so bad. i'm an agressive skiier but i'm kinda struggling with those caylors in a 171. but they are the shortest nearly symmetrical rockered twin that i could find.
they definitely dont chop through crud well, its possible, just not the best ski for that
they're fun in the pow, definitely float well switch and reg, just have to lean a little
they carve up groomers like a champ, the 17m radius is so fun, carving in and out of butters is the coolest feeling
i figure these will be a fun ski to mess around on. i know they are too long. but i should be able to just have fun on em. for 150 bucks, how wrong can i go? i've got some old px12's with a fat brake that i'm going to throw on them. but i agree. i'm going to try to ride my friends 161 invaders and see how i like a shorter softer park ski. i do alright on my 164 punx. but, 7's and big spins are difficult if not impossible on the 35 foot jumps we have in the park. hopefully this year we get some decent sized features. but back on topic, i figure i can't go too wrong with these.
I Love mine at 6' 155 lb, but they are extremely squirly in the choppy shit. Terrible in the bumps and tracked out pow. I still love them in everything else though. With sharp edges, they can charge as hard as a race ski when on ice. At your size, they will hold up a bit better in the choppy shit than they do for me, but it will still be a work out. Go for it, one of the best/ most unique skis ever produced. Also, it is the softest ski ever produced for sale, even softer than EP Pro's and Hellbents imo. Its insane.
