If you wanna learn to roll really well buy a pack of zigzags and just roll js until the papers are gone. if one turns out like shit empty it out and try again.
i will post some things that have helped me in a longer list in a while.
Traditional joint
1. Grind up your herb, tobacco, or spice( when learning to roll it is best to make sure your mix is fluffy and free of stems, it will make it more smooth to roll)
2.hold your paper in whichever hand feels best
have your index finger in the paper a little bit while your middle finger and thumb are holding it in a nice V shape. leaving most of the paper open to put your mix in.
3. with your other hand put mix in the paper leaving a little less than a centimeter at each end for the mix to spread to while rolling.
4.with both hands cradle the paper in between your thumbs and the rest of your fingers( with thumbs facing you)
5. this is where you will need the most practice. use your thumbs to slide the half of the paper facing you against the other half.
what this will do is form your mix into the shape of the joint. If you have ever seen someone roll sushi it is pretty relate-able to that action. as you are doing this make sure to start with your thumbs in the middle and work your way to the ends of your joint. You just have to keep practicing this. and dont worry about a little herb falling out the ends as you are rolling that will just be used for the next joint.
6. when you feel that it is in your desired shape, take the dive and fold the closest edge of the paper over the mixture, and gently work your way to the edges rolling the joint until you are left with the gum strip exposed
7.finally lick the gum strip lightly and making sure everything is tight, finish the roll by wrapping that over and making sure it sticks.
with any luck you have rolled your first joint
this is just the bare bones method, it is way more convenient than having to make a filter or any of that.
sometimes using a filter will help you learn how to roll. in this case place a filter( rolled up piece of notecard or something similar) where your index finger was in the paper, and instead of rolling working your way to both sides, start from the filter and work your way to the other end.
if there is anything i have not made so clear just let me know.
this cant be stressed enough. you will be nervous your first time so if your sweating take a break because you will not eb succesful. also i saw a helpful video on youtube but cant find it now but anyways here is a good tip for putting in roaches/filters
after you roll up your index card or whatever u use for your roach, instead of waiting till the j is rolled and inserting it, you can insert it before and have a way better fit. what i do is first after rolling up the filter unroll the spiral a bit so you can clip the edge of it onto the paper before you roll up the j. this way as you roll up your j the filter follows and it ends up being a perfect fit and the j is tight and will draw well. sorry i cant explain it better but ill try to find the vid
