Help with mac book pro!!!

Arite for christmas im trying to get a really good laptop and I want to get a mac book pro 15 inch cause the 13 inch is different for the 15 and 17 inch. But the thing is the price is so fucking high!. I really want it but i dont think my dad will pay that much. Does anyone know if i suld get the 13 inch instead because its less money but its  definatly not as good as the 15 inch. Or are there any other laptop that anyone would reccomend thats really good for editing. Thanks +k for any help

look into it a bit more maybe. You don't seem fully knowledgeable (which is a good thing to be when it comes to a very expensive purchase such as this) on the subject yet. You may yet find the 13 inch will more than suffice for your needs.

Im already into editing and im trying to get a better comuter for it cause the on i have now sucks major dick. do you think the 13 inch will be good for editing and fast?

ive got the 13 inch and it works fine for editing.. im not a 100 percent sure but the 15 probably has more memory but if your getting into editing ur eventually going to need a seperate harddrive.. so id go with the 13 inch, i love it and would reccomend it for sure, you wont go wrong with either

surprisingly the 13 and 15 actually both have the same amount of memory (both can be maxed out at 8 GB on the apple store).

you can get a 500 gb hard drive for each, but the one in the 15 inch is faster (7200 rpm vs. 5400 (?) rpm)

you can also get the same 512 GB solid state drive for each, but that's expensive as shit. price will go down on those over time.

i think the 15 inch has a better processor and graphics card or something, but i don't really know anything about that.

like the kid above me said, you'll need an external hard drive for both extra space and more importantly, backup.

get the 15 if you can, but if you can only get the 13 then i'm sure it will still be completely fine for editing. some people complain about the size of the screen, which is understandable, but you would get used to it.

You'll be fine with the 13, unless you're editing 60 minute 1080i videos in final cut. I am able to edit 50 megapixel images on my 13 with ease.

But seriously:

You don't sound like you need a laptop in the first place. Just get a desktop if you don't need a laptop. If you get a 1200$ desktop it's gonna blow the MBP just straight out of the water!

Now, if you do need a laptop: just get a 13". The 15" doesn't have too much advantage I would say. Sure it does have a bit better graphical card, but when you update to 8gb instead of 4, it's gonna be kick-ass aswell (do this yourself, don't let apple do it for you!).
As far as the hard drive speed goes: Just get an external hard drive and get a ssd in your macbook or something.

Long story short: Get the 13", you won't regret it

you're definitely gonna want a 7200rpm drive. you can buy one for around 100 and installing is really easy. i recommend the seagate momentus 500g.

SO MUCH FUCKING WRONG INFO IN THIS THREAD (besides eheath, thank god he knows the truth)

the 13" MBP is a COMPLETELY different computer then the 15" and 17" due to the lack of a dedicated card and being handicapped with the Core 2 Duo. It is basically a Macbook with backlit keys and an aluminum shell.
Sorry for how mad I sound, I just wanted to let those facts be know

My beef is with people who say they are the same computers when a simple check on Apples site shows they are clearly not

I have the older Unibody MBP 15" with the Core 2 Duo, and although it is not nearly as speedy as the i5 or i7, Its not that bad. I have tried to make up for It by installing 8gb of ram and a solid state drive (instead of a disk drive that I use for booting OSX and launching applications) and although my computer is now insanely fast, My friends i7 (also with an ssd and 8gb) is still faster.

Not really sure where I'm going with this, because after spending the extra money for a SSD and 8gb of ram you might as well just get the 15 inch. For your purposes the 13" will be fine, trust me.

and yeah, I'm not saying the Core 2 is bad, but for a computer in the new lineup it should have had the i3.

whatever, I ain't even mad. I just wish people would research shit a little more before posting false info
