Switch

hi NS

i have some troubles doing tricks switch.
when i ride switch it feels more comfortable to look over my right shoulder, which means i would spin unnatural for me, which i find difficult. if i look over the other shoulder i feel uncomfortable and i feel like having less control.

does anyone have the same problem or has any tips?
would be great if someone could help me out.

It takes lot of practice. Try looking around the other shoulder when doing things other than skiing, like walk backwards pretending you are skiing switch :D

I dont really have any tips for ya, but if you watch Kelly Shaheens edits, he spins left while still looking over the left shoulder....its kinda different, but still can be done i guess.

it just takes practice, eventualy youll be comfortable looking over either shoulder, if you know what time the park opens, show up 20 min early and just ski groomers switch for a while, if your going to the chalet, ski switch, whenever your not in the park, practice switch and soon you will have no problems

Jump BEFORE you spin. Practice it with switch 180s. If your tips are catching you might be spinning too early.

im just like you  and i've praticed going switch ALOT and now i can look over both of my shoulders just as good.

Ive had this problem for a while now, you'll eventually get better at it, I find it alot easier not wearing goggles because you don't have as much in your way and dont have to look as hard. But yeah, just practice alot and youll get it

if you sleep lying on your stomach, turn your head to the side that feels weird when skiing switch.  i did this, and soon had no problems looking over my unnatural shoulder.

id say it be a lot more beneficial in the long run to master looking over both shoulders as opposed to looking over one shoulder and spinning the opposite direction. just keep practicing it no matter how akward it feels and it will get easier over time. also, learn how to spin switch both ways, like ginean giraffalo.

looking over your opposite shoulder while skiing switch is probably one of the most frustrating things about skiing, for me at least. just make sure you're paying attention to your stance, try and keep your skis together while running straight or turning, but keep your stance wide on takeoffs. it's a little weird finding your edges switch at first but soon it'll come natural. try bombing groomers and hopping to switch while going real fast, its a good way to get over the fear, plus good practice for jumps.

Yea trooth, works for me too, mostly because it stretches out the neck muscles.

I'm like you too, I'm more comfortable looking over my right. I've been practicing skiing entire runs switch and to ski good turns you need to pivot your head to the other side. I've found that this has made it easier to look on my left side, mixed with stretching and sleeping ^^^

The problem for me is offsetting my feet, because as soon as I do, I turn and I don't want to.

Bring your feet closer together but still staggered. lean forward a bit more and focus on twisting your waist, not your hips and knees, when you stagger your feet. this will open up your posture and keep your knees pointed up hill. no turny.

ride switch on stuff and butter a ton both ways. it helps riding swicth and spinning switch

i had the EXACT same problem, you'll get used to it, just spin both ways, and ski backwards alot. BOOM there it is

try not to do that stupid look over the opposite shoulder then whip your head around as you spin the opposite way thing. looks really goofy. just learn to look over the correct shoulder.

Dude its just one of those things you gota practice to get better at, just ski swich looking over that shoulder as much as possible it takes time but in the end its worth it.

thanks everyone, this is really gonna help me a lot. gonna be going switch of those pistes alot i guess.
I tried the sleeping thing! gonna keep that going and see if it works. i'll find out friday, gonna hit the slopes for the first time this season.

Would've helped, and thanks, I think when I'm at Holiday Mountain I'll ride the magic carpet a few laps because the kiddie hill's barely 10 degrees..

I had the same discomfort as you last year.

This year, right out of the gate, I made sure to switch shoulders when I would make switch turns. It has helped a lot, and even though I was a very capable switch rider last year, I feel much more complete when I look over both shoulders.

I haven't hit any jumps sw unnatty yet, just a few sw 1's and 3's over rollers. Once there are jumps set up at my hill, I can't wait to give it a try.
