Kayaking re-edit + twixtor test

i got twixtor for fcp, and tried it out on some kayaking stuff from summer

here is the new edit

the first shot looked a little funny on my computer, but it might just be my computer, so i went back and set an alternate motion source for twixtor, of the clip with the contrast bumped up. This is with out the alternate motion source. Other than that i think the slowmo shot look pretty good.

Twixtor only really works when there is a plain background with nothing else going on. In your second shot the morphing was REALLY bad and noticeable.

yea, i just watched it on my brother's computer, the black paddle and dark rocks dont play nice

idk if i can pull of twixtor on my PowerBook G4, it can barely do fcp

its not about power, its about the shot...

you have a handheld + water shot, no interpolation program out there can handle that well

the thing you have to remember about twixtor is that its not a slow motion program really. it's a motion estimation program. that means that it's literally making an educated guess as to what the next frame of video would look like if there were one. so something like water is already extremely hard for twixtor to handle, and the fact that the video isn't HD would it harder as well i think

but yes you are right, twixtor isn't magic and having non-HD clips only makes it harder

oh, why is it conformed to 4:3 960p? and why are you not shooting 720 60p? If you do that you wont need twixtor....

no difference, its just literally what Twixtor does. It takes two frames and interpolates (constructs new data points within a range of known points) the new frame in between

looks like somewhere along the way you're converting it to standard-def. make sure all your project settings match your clip settings. but as ski.the.east said, you should shoot 720p60p. much easier for slow motion, and if you still decide to do twixtor, it makes that easier as well.

i think it might have been my export settings, i just switched versions of final cut and wasnt paying close attention
